Got the 13 Pro x9 in today, excited to try it out. But… I can’t get it to boot to any Linux installer. I’ve tried Catchy, Kubuntu, Ubuntu and Ventoy. Freshly loaded, latest versions. Written to 4 different USB thumbsticks across two brands (Samsung and Sandisk. The Samsung are all relatively recent drives, not something lingering from 20 years ago). Wrote the images on mac with DD and BalenaEtcher. Also wrote the images using the Ubuntu “Disk” tool from an older Framework 13 (running Ubuntu). Tried different USB ports, tried both sides of the machine.
It just spins, stuck at Get:5 file:/cdrom resolute/main amd64 Packages .
I found one forum thread here previously that suggested BIOS update, but the factory BIOS is still the latest.
I must be missing something clearly terribly dumb and obvious, please help.
Yes. I wrote catchy and ubuntu on mac via dd once each (different USB drives), then Balena once each. Then on Linux. Probably 4 more times with different drives.
I don’t have an image at the moment, restarted the machine and got it to boot using netboot.xyz, seeing if I can get something installed that way. Which is… annoying but at least it would work.
(oh and yes, I disabled secure boot. I don’t think I should need to, since I’ve never installed anything before, but just in case)
Yes. I still want to figure out why/how. Either I’m doing something dumb, or there is some magical catch to these new machines that is a rough spot that needs sanding.
Hmm, I am a bit out of ideas. What expansion cards do you have? Next I would be inclined to take all cards out, then use your USB-A card only, and try it in all four slots. If you have more than one USB-A card, try them all in all slots. It could be a bad card.
Which version of Ubuntu did you try, some seem to have more success with 24.04. How much video memory did you allocate in BIOS?
EDIT: Also make sure the Date and Time is set more or less correctly. It doesn’t matter to the second but these days hash verifications will fail if it’s the default out of the box.
You’ve not said if you checked that SHA256 hashes of the downloaded files match the online versions or if reading back the written images also has the same hashes (telling you the data’s perfectly duplicated). But that’s a thing for thoroughness.
I suspect the common parts are your USB ports/adapters. Is there a setting for ‘shut down to save power’ or ‘shut down when overheated’ that you can reset?

I tried both sides top most USB ports. Using the “included” USB-C expansion cards AND prior generation expansion cards.
USB C, USB C, HDMI, USB-A. I removed USB A and HDMI. Added ethernet since that made things easier for netboot.xyz, but I tried without it as well. Used both the new USB-C ports I got with this framework along with old ones.
Also, interestingly, someone posted on reddit having problems with ubuntu/kubuntu as well. Reddit
I just installed Omarchy Quattro on my brand new FW 13 Pro x7. Used windows blenda etcher for the USB stick creation. Booted right up after turning off secure boot. I used a brand new thumbdrive for this, sometimes I have problems with thumb drives that may have had other bootable partitions on it before.
Best thing to do under Windows is to use diskpart, select the correct disk (reverify maybe 3 times that you have the correct disk number!) and then do a clean on it. After that it should be no problem, the normal Disk Management tool can’t really do that in my experience. On Linux you could use something like gparted or partitionmanager with a GUI and select “New Partition table” on the stick.
