13 pro panther lake on Debian?

Curious if anyone’s been able to get either Trixie or Forky running on the new panther lake Pros. So far for me, Trixie boots but fails to display sddm for some reason, and Forky just stalls at a black screen after grub.

UPDATE: I was able to get past the black screen on Forky by adding nomodeset to the grub kernel params.

UPDATE 2: I was able to resolve the black screen issue on Forky. It looks like the root cause was that I was missing the firmware-intel-graphics package after installing with the DVD iso. Additionally, the default apt repos were missing entirely.

Steps to resolve from a fresh install:

  • When you get to grub, press e and add nomodeset to the kernel params so you can finish booting
  • Verify default repos are listed in /etc/apt/sources.list(see below)
  • Install firmware-intel-graphics
    • sudo apt update && sudo apt install firmware-intel-graphics
  • Reboot

Forky default repos:

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ forky main contrib non-free-firmware
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ forky main contrib non-free-firmware

deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security forky-security main contrib non-free-firmware
deb-src http://security.debian.org/debian-security forky-security main contrib non-free-firmware

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ forky-updates main contrib non-free-firmware
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ forky-updates main contrib non-free-firmware

I’ve been running Debian Sid on one for quite a while now, starting with kernel 6.19.

Does it work ootb or did you have to make any tweaks?

I have a Intel Core Ultra X7 358H panther lake CPU and a Panther Lake Arc B390 (rev4) VGA controller and had the same black screen of death unless I set mode set.

I had loaded a debian forky weekly build. Some how when I asked to install firmware-intel-graphics it installed the older 2025 build - which resulted in the same black screen!

Once I figured out it had the old version I did another install this time it fetched the 2026 version???

Now it’s fine with out the nomodeset option!

Naturally I only saw your post after I had spent much of the day figuring out the nomodeset…

Note: I couldn’t install blueman for my bluetooth mouse - it has an old build and clashes with perl3 version in forky. So I got my bluetooth mouse working via bluetoothctl command line

as per Now it’s fine!
