300W GaN charger not working w/ FW16

Hello all,

Finally got my own Framework 16 for Christmas, and it’s been great. However, just this past week it has stopped taking a charge from my charger. It’s a PPS 300W with 3.3-21V 5A on the main port. I’ve even gone as far as to replace the USB-C cable with a UGREEN 40Gbps cable and unplug everything else from it. Anyone else run into anything similar?

  • Which OS (Operating System)? Windows 11
  • Which release of your OS (Operating System / Windows 10, 11)? (if you are having a Linux related issue, please create your thread under the Linux subcategory) Pro 25H2
  • Which Framework product (Laptop 13, Laptop 16, Laptop 12 or Desktop) and which generation of CPU (Intel 11th gen, Intel 12th gen , Intel 13th gen, Intel Ultra Series 1, Chromebook, AMD 7040 Series, AMD AI 300 Series, AMD AI Max 300 Series) or GPU (NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5070, AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S) Laptop 16 7840HS, no dGPU

What’s the specification of your PPS 300W? Please list all its possible voltage/current combination

I didn’t know a 300w USBc psu was in spec. I thought the max it went was 240w.

Sorry, just to clarify, the power brick itself is capable of 300W total sustained output across its six ports, but only two are rated for 100W at the specification I listed in my OP. There’s also two non-PPS USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, which are out of scope for this discussion.

The FL16 doesn’t use PPS, try using a non-PPS USB-C port

That’s unfortunate. I’m confident that it was charging successfully from this charger at one point in its life. And it does indicate that it’s connected to power, with the battery percentage effectively frozen (neither increasing nor decreasing) while plugged in.

The charger does work notmally (otherwise the computer will discharge) but the computer fails to charge the battery. What’s the percentage?

You can use powercfg /batteryreport on Windows to show the battery information, is everything alright?

It’s at 39% currently, and yes the battery report has no issues beyond the “Connected Standby” message.

So it doesn’t charge from any of the ports? Have you tried battery disconnect in the bios to reset the ports?

This worked! Thank you so much!

Nice. This is a bug in the fw16 bios/firmware. I wish they would fix it.
