5070 draining more power than my laptop can supply?

Hello,

Currently facing a “issue” with my 5070 in my framework 16 laptop. Specifically Batch 17 of Framework Laptop 16 (AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series).

As my purchase suggests I enjoy videogames and like to play even when I can’t be at home. I have noticed that as I play games with the expansion slot it will die while charging. I understand this is not a desktop and the charger is not a PSU, so expecting it to perform as such might be out of reach. I was curious if others also have faced this issue, and if they have found a solution to play without charge anxiety. Currently my only solution is to leave it charging for 30-45 minutes before I start playing something. If you have any insights/suggestions please leave them below.

This is a known thing with the 180W chargers (and is consistent with gaming laptops in general). The 240W charger was released in part to remedy this.

Thanks, Ill check it out

It is strange though that it’s not switching to a different power mode when crossing the 30% threshold - mine does that after 2 hours or so of heavy gaming starting at 80%.

Note that the 240W PSU doesn’t eliminate this issue, just makes it less likely.

Hmmm, this is the first time im seeing this. Do you know if you had set a option for this? Lowkey what I need, rather get a few less frames than a full on shutdown because of battery level.
