Form Factor Problem For Many Useful Slots.
I’ve seen some super cool expansion card ideas in many threads, But the problem is form factor.
My suggestion is, Use 2 cards (Daisy chain), 1st one is standard in size, Size of the second card is the same as the laptop size or double the size of a standard card.
So on the second expansion card, many things Might be fit.
On 2nd Card - There are 3 sides that can be anything(Ports).
( 3x USB-A ).

Build an external monitor that uses the same panle as the laptop (maybe also the bezel).
This would potentially give framework more buying power with the panel suppliers
And maybe even open up a test for how many people would buy a touch panel (maybe even lower resolution?)

And it would be really nice if this panel also cinluded some more slots for the expansion modules.

Maybe also premium model that is also a Thunderbolt 4 switch.

seems many people are really keen on building custom keyboards.
There could be a Framework Keyboard that has places for the laptop expansion cards.

It could even be offered in two versions

  • lower cost, where the keyboard is more like one of those “dumb” dongles (eg something like this
  • more expensive version with an integrated TB/USB Switch (so has 2 fixed USB-C poerts, one upstream and one downstream (eg something like this

I don’t think it’s easy but…
avermedia (hdmi input to usb c )
to receive a video stream, as expansion module or expansion bay
