I think I speak for the majority of users that opensource and right to repair are bipartison places and misuse of the word facsism should be a bannable offense.
Calling people fascists or fascist supporters is a serious accusation that is too often used to silence dissent and politically kill a goal or relationship. It’s a form of manipulation and control.
Guilty by association is becoming more prevalent in many political spaces and is anti-thetical to the right to repair movement.
If users cannot remain neutral they should have no voice in a neutral space.
This falls under the community guidelines already as an ad hominem/personal attack and I have already flagged people and moderators have done what they need to do. I have done this for both sides of the debate so no accusations of favoritism please. The moderators on the forum are mostly on hiatus unless they are corporate and have chosen to moderate with a light touch it seems considering the volatility at the moment
Oh it’s deeper than that. They call you fascist to justify removing you from the planet. Our “fascist” US president just brokered a peace deal between Gaza and Israel, but you wont find any of those people praising this amazing accomplishment. But good luck with this thread. The mods are obviously on the “left” side of things, unfortunately.
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. However, Framework owns these forums, not the us government. So Framework can set whatever rules they desire.
So obvious that they are getting attacked for promoting or supporting fascism. Please do not ascribe motivations to individuals you do not know for actions that have not been taken. The volunteer mods aren’t even here right now. It’s just corporate.
This doesn’t make sense. If this is true you have freedom of speech everywhere. North Korea arguably has freedom of speech because you can speak ill of Kim, but you are not free from the consequence of being disappeared.
Sorry, I didn’t clarify. I was talking about the mods prior to this incident. If they are all gone now, and only corporate mods currently, then what I said probably does not apply.
You can see for yourself, check the moderator group. 2/3 have updated bio to indicate they aren’t here. The third mod I expect has done the same and just hasn’t updated his bio
Galactically tangential to the DHH-related clusterfsck under discussion here, but on this point specifically, why don’t you point those people™ to this little nugget in the news?
“It’s a really significant first step, and I really commend President Trump and his administration, as well as Arab leaders in the region, for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called the day after,” Clinton told CBS News in an interview.
Then, and this time without sarcasm, take some deep breaths, reflect a bit on your apparent level of moral outrage (and its effects on your perception of the zeitgeist), and feel free to suggest the same to anyone else. Speaking from some experience here.
Posts that have political / activism content MUST be flagged with a label. If not they are removed (and repeat offenders banned).
Comments with political / activism content MUST be made in posts flagged as such. If not they are removed (and repeat offenders banned).
With these rules in place, give us an option to HIDE these posts (make it a default please).
I literally just joined to ask a couple of questions regarding H/W options in order to place an order and this seems like the wrong place to discuss Framework laptops…
If you want, do it the opposite way: create a section where the discussion is strictly about the products and leave the rest open for anything. Just make sure new joiners land in the forum related to your business and products, otherwise it’d be very confusing for new joiners.
Discourse does not provide the tools to do as you suggest AFAIK. There already exists a general discussion area and everything else is product related. I’m afraid you’ll have to manually mute threads you find objectionable.
Perhaps there are plugins?
I’m out of the loop with what has gone on there. I read the thread when it had maybe 5 or 10 replies. Including 2 or 3 from Nrp. I feel like that was only a couple days ago, but the thread now claims to have 1200 replies…
First thing that comes to mind, Aliens: I say we take off, and nuke the site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure
I have the misfortune of telling you that I have read every single reply. Yes, it has only been 2-3 days and yes, there are 1k+ replies. Although your response greatly amuses me.
While I understand where you are coming from for advice - the reality is we are down on resources and I will continue to moderate the best I can though I will not catch everything. My focus is making sure the community has a place to have a discussion on the topic at the end of the day. Again, I appreciate the advice, but I will be closing this topic as there is not much more I can do on the matter.
