Am I the only one who hates the up arrow backlight?

@Ivy I had to bring my keyboard close to my face to see that it was the array I was seeing and not just a larger patch of keyboard base being illuminated. If I am facing the computer, head-on, I only notice that more of the base is being illuminated because of the larger gap in the keys. If I rotate the base 0f the computer counterclockwise, I can actually see the LED array, which is considerably brighter. It actually doesn’t take much to see the LED. Even looking at the screen head-on, moving my head such that my nose is more-or-less in line with the Q key, will show LED as well.

@Ivy, I wouldn’t expect that the LEDs would be directly visible. Do the arrow keys appear properly installed - flush with the others, not tilted, et cetera? I have tried to reproduce on my machine. I can see a tiny sliver of the LED when viewing diagonally, but it’s not a position that one typically would be in while using the machine. Hopefully the Support team can help you, this doesn’t appear to be an expected outcome. Best of luck with getting it resolved.

@lbkNhubert Myt picture up top is showing direct LED visibility. It is even visible in daylight and maybe it makes it easier to notice since the rest of backlight on low during teh day is virtually invisible.

The keys appear to be installed correctly. They are not angled or crooked. The outer edges appear to have the same tolerance as other keys. Their height matches other keys when not pressed. When pressed down they sit at the same level as other keys.

Anyway, unless other people are also noticing this light at similar angles, 45 degree or so then I think this thread is full. I am reaching out to support and I will finalize with an update on this thread to let others who may have this same issue what I learn.

Thanks again everyone.

I do see a few frames out of the above where more light is leaking from below the up key, and I think by nature of it being “stacked” half-height keys there will always be a little bit of leakage at very specific angles. However yours seems a lot more severe for whatever reason.

If it really bothers you you could try sticking a thin bit of electrical tape on the bottom edge, letting it overhang the bottom by a millimeter or two (at the cost of tactility, I imagine).

An old post but still relevant. I too am bothered by the light leaking around the up and down arrow keys. It’s my one quality complaint. The two half-height keys don’t fill the available space as well as the other, full keys.
