AMD 7700S Graphic Module not working

Hello there,

I recently wanted to upgrade my FW16 by installing a Graphic expansion module. I bought the 2nd Gen AMD RX 7700S and installed it.

It is showing in Windows Device Manager, but it doesn’t work when needed. As far as I understand it, it is only activated when (for example) opening a game. When I do this, the entire screen goes black, the image that should be showing flashes up and down the screen and there are visual artifacts showing.

I assumed that this issue had to do with the drivers or something like that, so I updated the BIOS and installed the new driver bundle from framework. It didn’t help.

Then I tried Installing AMDs Software (Adrenaline) and updated my driver there. Didn’t help either.

I tried reinstalling the graphics module interposer, also didn’t help.

I am completely out of ideas and would appreciate any support

Here are my current specs:

  • Laptop 16, AMD 7040 Series, AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S
  • Win 11, 24h2
  • AMD Adrenaline Version: 26.1.1
  • Driver for Graphic Module: 25.30.17.01-260108a-197640C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition

EDIT: BIOS Version: 4.3

Just as a thought, have you tried booting a recovery environment (like the windows recovery image, or any of the graphical Linux ones) and testing the graphics card there with something like vkCube? Additionally have you tried running Windows in safe mode and seeing if the problem persists?
