Apple motherboard in a Framework chassis?

A framework that runs macOS would be awesome. Some of their motherboards are super tiny, like with the MacBook Neo and Mac Mini M4. Could they be made to work inside a Framework laptop chassis?

Hi, unfortunately, I believe what you’re asking is extremely difficult, as nice as it would be. The various connectors for the screen, keyboard, trackpad… are proprietary on Apple motherboards and are not compatible with the Framework case. Additionally, macOS lacks the necessary drivers for Framework hardware, like the removable expansion cards. So I believe it’s practically impossible.

Framework expansion cards are pretty much just USB C devices, so Apple hardware should work with most of them no problem.

The rest of your points sound right, especially display, speakers, and keyboard. Plus, Apple locks down its hardware. Even if you find a way to physically connect the mainboard (tough but doable), you’ll probably have to figure out how to unlock it.

Apple is notoriously known by its “parts serialization”, which makes the device refuse to work properly when connected to third-party components
