Currently have Baazite installed on my FD. Trying to keep things pretty vanilla. Any reason to switch to SteamOS?
Also, I do have the UGreen DisplayPort adapter for CEC. I did mess around with scripts, etc. to get it to work nicely, but I fell into a bit of a rabbit hole trying to get it to play nicely with the other devices on the CEC network. Anyone verify how this might work more nicely with SteamOS?
You could probably boot from a USB to try it out. Sorry I can’t give first-hand knowledge, since I have the FW16 with NVIDIA running Bazzite. However, I’m genuinely curious about this as well.
Have you tried CachyOS? People are saying that it is practically a mutable SteamOS.
Nope, have seen it mentioned a lot. I mainly just want a HTPC setup, so far the flatpack stuff hasn’t really bothered me as I’m not really hacking it. I did learn a lot about how it works while messing around trying to get the CEC stuff working and it was, uhh, a learning experience. Booting off a USB to try it out isn’t the worst, was just hoping someone could confirm if the CEC stuff was there first esp as AFAIK it’s at least partially driven by the BIOS/hardware stuff eg the wake stuff. Between the DisplayPort adapter, the BIOS stuff, the CEC config, etc. it’s a lot of fiddly stuff. Kind of wish there was a standard for HTPC, eg the BIOS supports wake, input switching, etc.
I own a Steam Deck and a Framework Desktop, both of which have Bazzite on it. I feel like the two are finally on almost even footing with the latest updates on SteamOS, but I believe Bazzite has better support and compatibility.
I see no reason to make the switch.
I think the Steam Machine will eventually have good CEC support but I doubt it’ll ship with it. So, this year, I’d be very surprised if switching to SteamOS improved your CEC in any meaningful way. Next year, maybe!
