Batch 9 Guild

And we have send off! So hyped to receive it even though I won’t be home for the next 5 days :frowning:

In my case, I just went off to the Pakketpunt to pick up the SSD I’ll use. Now I just need a Framework to put it in…

Went with SEPA and was surprised they went with rather limited payment options (cc and sepa in Germany). I just hope that doesn’t backfire for them since sepa is kind of prone to abuse.

@mitspieler You ordered with SEPA? Have you already got to stage 4?

I got to stage 3 yesterday and I am trying to guess when I will get the payment confirmation (stage 4).

The deposit was withdrawn 5 days after the order was placed (weekend in-between). Hope this time it goes faster.

@Proximus I’m not quite familiar with the stages. My timeline (with sepa) was:
March 13th, initial order, mail from stripe they’re gokng to withdraw the deposit. Withdrawal happened on 15th.
On 16th I got the mail “preparing your order”.
On 17th they wrote me the “payment complete” mail and stripe announced the withdraw of complete amount.
The final withdrawal then happened on 22nd.
It took a few days then until I received a tracking number with the mail “order shipped” yesterday on 28th. Granted I couldn’t hold back but had to bother support during that time m) (sorry for that)… However 15 days from order to shipping seems extremely lucky as well as quite surreal when even big players like DELL or Lenovo have up to three months delay for orders.

rn I’m wondering how long transit from Taipei might take…

@mitspieler Thanks for the info, so probably still have to wait a week for the payment to pass and a week for delivery. Should have changed to credit card :face_exhaling:

It’s so unusual to have pure SEPA as payment option, I had to test it out

Depending on their setup, it might even be a good thing.
They’re a business starting small and trying to expand. They need feedback to figure out what works, what doesn’t, what works but needs improvement, etcetera. Goes for payments, communications, etcetera.

I mean, it might still end up a bit soul-destroying for individual customer support people that were (probably) sourced through a third party that pays shit, but… (Basically no-one ever anywhere hires their own first-line customer support nowadays, it’s all sourced through a few megacorpos that help set you up with agents covering Languages ABC and timezones XYZ, with agents being able to get job security through not needing to have enough work from one “employer” to cover all their time, but also with a big corp skimming on the top and thus hurting your final pay, so… Having been in the similar-but-different market for outsourced QA on video games before, I have conflicting thoughts on that whole setup because I can see both pros and cons.)

Bummer, I was expecting stage 5 any day now, but instead fot this:

We wanted to provide an update on your Framework Laptop order. Your laptop is in our fulfillment center in Taiwan, but the packaging material we need to safely ship it to you was unfortunately delayed in transit from China due to COVID related port closures. This material is on track to arrive in our warehouse on April 1st. However, due to a national holiday in Taiwan, our fulfillment partner is shut down until April 6th, when we’ll be able to resume shipments.

Seems like anyone who hasn’t had the stage 5 mail yet will be in for an extra week of waiting, bummer… But realizing how hard production logistics are, I’m already amazed how accurate their planning is, even when it then snags on something trivial as packaging  And I guess there might be a big pile of packages and stage 5 mails waiting to be sent by the 6th, then.

Ah, so I’m not alone. I was wondering wether what set me up was the suspicion I read (somewhere) that there’s special packaging needed on orders with more than 6 expansion cards - and I ordered 7.

Ah well, in my case, just means the second RC of the OS I will use will be out, instead of first RC. I’m fine with this. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Matthijs_Kooijman I just received the same mail. Very disappointing considering the fact that I ordered on the 14th of February! They didn’t even manage to ensure that all Batch 9 orders are processed before Batch 10.

Yet, they DID charge my credit card… At least they offered to cancel the order.

@Daniel_Agorander I just ordered 6 expansion cards, to that is at least not the only reason for a delay.
Regards,

Robert

In case you haven’t seen those news, there’s a MAJOR covid wave in China right now, with large-scale shutdowns of whole cities.

Logistics in general is problematic still, but when you then add a government implementing waves of lockdown measures, things get a wee bit more unpredictable.

That would explain the delay, but not the order in which they process orders.

From what I’ve seen, there’s multiple variables in play there. For example, US/Canada is a fulfilled from a center in New Jersey. Needless to say, they’re not going to halt operations there because something is affecting fulfillment from Taiwan. Similarly, order fulfillment is dependent on the parts - if the manufacturer is still delivering i7 boards for Batch 9 while Batch 10 i5 boards are already being delivered, or what if there’s a glut of language X keyboard but shortage of language Y? Etc etc.

That said, I haven’t followed Batch 10 Guild, so I’m going to assume you’ve observed those orders actually going out? Or do you mean that we’ll be hitting “Batch 10 month”?
