Hi,
How can I store my frame.work Laptop 13 AMD Ryzen AI 5 laptop for a long duration of time (~6 months) without damaging it?
Should I remove certain components to save them up? Should I drain the battery before doing so?
Thank you!
Lithium batteries will deteriorate fast when:
- In nearly full charge(>80%) for too long
- Depleted charge(<0%) for too long
For long-term storage, you should:
- Charge/Discharge the battery to 60% charge
- Periodically check the charge every month, and charge the battery to maintain the optimal energy level.
If you need more duration without checking the battery status, you should disconnect the battery via the “Battery disconnect” advanced option in the firmware setup screen, note that Framework specifically mentioned that the battery connecter is fragile and you avoid physically disconnecting the battery except absolutely necessary.
You can switch off the battery using “battery disconnect” in BIOS so you don’t need to physically unplug the battery. This saves BMS standby power and the battery can be stored in the laptop for a long time. It’s
still better to charge the battery periodically like once per three months, before discharging it to 40% and disconnecting in BIOS again
Like others mention. Discharge the battery to about 60 - 80 % and then remove the battery.
Lithium battery’s keep their charge well, but only when removed from the device.
All other components will be OK it left.
Leave the psu disconnected.

Thanks for the information. I’ve updated the reply.
