BIOS help with eng sample

Hi everyone, pleased to meet the community.

I acquired a used 128gb 395 board in China that has an ES processor, boots up to a framework logo, and has framework printings on the bottom, mounting holes that match the framework diagrams. I put it in a 15 liter mATX case with a SFX PSU and will order a Framework cooler to swap in.

It takes something like 1 full minute to get to the boot screen from a cold power on and also runs the fans full blast when powered off but plugged in, which is a bit annoying. I’ve been unable to reflash it with the latest Framework 3.05 bios because it fails at startup.nsh. I have Fedora 44 installed and it shows sys_vendor: Flower board_name: FRANMFCP00 bios_vendor: INSYDE Corp

I understand I didn’t buy a supported product but it would be nice if anyone could give some pointers on this. Will share more details, assuming it’s allowed here… Definitely plan on sharing some cooling upgrade work with the community to give back.

My recommendation would be don’t even try a bios update.
If they have used a different component for the CPU, they have probably used different components elsewhere.
So, making any bios updates will most likely brick the mainboard.

I didn’t realize how different an ES could be, thank you for the suggestion. I messed around and discovered the board will only run each fan at a fixed PWM value (the lm-sensors can’t see anything, and it doesn’t respond to manual fan curve in the BIOS) so it seems I’ll need to get an external fan controller with a temp probe. I showed Google Gemini the BIOS settings and it suggested I disable Memory Training, which…I think dropped the preboot time to 20s, which is not too bad.

I intend to keep this on or in sleep so it’s not a big deal. The previous owner said the GPU runs big LLMs just fine and that it would run at 100W with the diminutive cooler.
