When plugging this thunderbolt 3 device directly into the USB4 ports on the back, it shows up as a low-speed (1mbit!?) USB device, but doesn’t enumerate in boltctl and is invisible to the aquantia driver.
However, if I put a thunderbolt 4 dock in between, it works fine.
Compared to cheaper/smaller machines like the MS-01, It has been a huge chore getting any sort of usable 10G network on this computer. I tried to fit a x4 PCIe SFP+ NIC into the socket on the motherboard, but there is not enough space between the power supply and the SFP+ cage, even if I were to remove the NIC’s heatsink and cut a hole in the back of the case. And thunderbolt is a nightmare of issues (iommu slowdowns, this enumeration problem, etc) compared to Intel.
I’m honestly regretting my purchase; it’s a powerful machine, but is incredibly limited by its lackluster networking options, and Framework not making it clear how terrible it was in their marketing material.
