They have exactly 1 and it’s on display. Hadn’t had a chance to play with one yet until today. This is a good opportunity to check it out if you haven’t seen one yet.
Framework is stores?!
Excellent.
If you go back to that store at some point, perhaps you could take pictures of it on display.
I must admit, I didn’t expect this so soon. Even if it is just one store or a few stores.
As of when I got there it hadn’t even been plugged in. There was no operating system installed. Anybody with a fedora boot usb feel free to get it going lol.
Wow, I guess the employee that put that out either did not have a clue what they were doing or didn’t care. Being as they neglected to attach the keyboard & touchpad spacers.
I see now that the Microcenter listing is for the DIY version. It includes Windows, but it says it’s by download.

I talked with one of the employees - they definitely had no idea what they were given. Procurement didn’t seem to communicate they were purchasing one. I gave them some tips but it’s a trial product for sure. They did the same thing with Keychron and now there’s a whole Keychron section.
If this gets noticed by anyone at Framework: I’d be hyped to see framework accessories sold at Microcenter. Also Microcenter could use some help understanding what they’re selling
Typically, any demo / display unit would be accompanied by anti-theft and anti-disassembly hardware attachment…otherwise you’ll just be losing pieces here and pieces there.
Not sure how Framework’s display unit is intended to be put up.
Do we know if Microcenter is only taking orders…or will they actually have in-store stock to sell?
I can go back and ask more questions if that’s interesting. Happy to help get info.
Also wonder if Best Buy US will have a same arrangement. …then there’s the question about Canadian retail resellers (Best Buy Canada, Memory Express, Canada Computers…etc). Or is Microcenter being treated as a pilot / retail soft launch? So many questions, I know.
Or is this the “pop-up” that nrp mentioned awhile back?
Yo let’s go it only took three years.
Quick update from what I’ve gathered in some trips to Microcenter over the past couple weeks. Microcenter was not supposed to put that on display. According to one employee it was sent by procurement for internal testing only, not for sale or customer display. According to the same employee Microcenter is in talks with Framework but they haven’t settled on a contract yet. The Framework 16 has been taken down
I would love to see Frameworks available in the DIY PC section and in the laptop section. Also Framework and Microcenter have an awesome opportunity to team up and offer “same-hour” repairs for all Framework laptops purchased at a Microcenter. I would absolutely love to see warranty plan where Microcenter promises to repair your framework in under an hour while you shop. I know many people who’ve had to ship their laptop cross-country to get it fixed and were left with no alternative for a few days.
