@Second_Coming Noooooo

My wife did the same skin on her Xbox Series X. Too subdued for me lol.

@Second_Coming That looks so good. I hope dBrand releases the same one for 16 soon. I had emailed them about the 16 skins but got no response so far. I want to keep my framework scratch-free for as long as possible and a skin is absolutely necessary for that.

How is the surface of the FW13 body finished? I somehow assumed it was clear anodized alumin(i)um, and that it would be similar to my Dell XPS for example (actually, it’s a Precision, but I think the body is the same). After six years of use I don’t see a single scratch on the top cover. There are a few small ones underneath, but really nothing very noticeable, and I don’t have the impression that I’m particularly gentle with it either.

The recent framework 13 laptops should be anodized aluminium, same as the upcoming 16 as mentioned in the deep dive here: Framework | Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive - Enclosure

Having said that, I am not sure how does it compare to Dell XPS as I do not have framework yet. My wife has 9370 XPS 13 and it also does not have any scratch on the top cover despite it staying without the sleeve and around cats, dongles and connectors for 3 years. I haven’t seen other users’ experience with post 12th gen Framework 13 in relation to scratches, so can’t say how it holds up.

I’ve had mine since an early batch of the 11th gens, and I have no visible scratches (though there is some grime since I haven’t cleaned it in a while. I do have some dents and dings, but also note that this is the first gen pressed aluminum top cover, not the newer machined aluminum cover that I believe is harder to dent than the OG. Also note that mine spends 99% of it’s time in my home, and the few times it’s been out and about it’s stayed in a sleeve, so there have been very few chances for it to get any bad scratches.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! And my apologies for taking this thread off-topic.

More on-topic, I guess based on the feedback I’ll take my chances and do it the other way around. I’ll keep the laptop as-is for now, rather confident that it will hold up OK. I’ll get a skin if at some point I feel I should cover up any scratches - or if I have money burning a hole in my pocket (meaning: not right now after buying that laptop )

I don’t recommend them honestly. My top cover has huge bubbles that I can’t get rid of and the internal one is just a nightmare to apply. And their support is non-existent. I will probably just do a charge back on my credit card.

Think it’s a combination of the skin and application technique.

The FL top cover surface is particularly friendly for skin application. It’s not a glossy finish, and allows for air bubbles to escape with ease.

I just did top and bottom along with the expansion cards…I agree…the middle is a PITA. I almost wonder if it would be easier removing the keyboard and track-pad to apply but it sounds like a lot of work just for a skin.

I hope my photos posted. Applied the Dbrand set a few days ago. Lovely quality. Somewhat fiddly to apply the bottom and palm-rest pieces, especially when trying to remove the pieces from the backing whilst trying to retain the cutouts (per Dbrand instruction). Got it all down with just a couple of tiny air bubbles that I can’t press out. Somewhat expensive at around AUD 100 and took about a month to arrive!

gah, every time someone posts pics of their skins it tempts me to get a set for the lid of my laptop, my wallet cries once again…

Hi! I am a bit confused… I would like to buy the teardown skin, but it seems that it is only for the lid. I would like to add other components to the purchase… how do I do so? Do I have to add everything but the lid skin manually, or some basic other parts are included in the teardown skin? (it is quite pricey…)

The teardown skin is only available for the top. Most other skins can be configured to either top only for as “deluxe Kit” also for the bottom and the input cover.

Just put a concrete top skin on my 13". I went with no logo cutout and really like the indent/beveled logo kinda look that results:

I only got the top cover. Mine’s ever so slightly off thus frayed on the front edge, but I dig the skin a lot. I intend to keep this machine for a long time, if Framework persists, so I’m good w/ a lived in look.

Thanks for sharing! I just ordered this one to go with the new framework 13 (with orange bezel) that I ordered yesterday. Excited to see it in person.

Sitting here after near year with FW 13 and just now through this thread found out that there are skins available.

I’m dying for something other than boring grey/black.

Here’s to hoping for more than just a coloured bezel custom option from FW. Would pay beaucoup bucks for carbon fibre look.

I know this is in the FW13 section, but if your wondering what the brown leather looks like, here you go!
