Do you have to pay a tariff (import tax) when buying a framework13 from the US?

I am confused as to what the latest info on this is. There is a very old blog post but it doesn’t seem conclusive.

I do not want to get a bill from customs after buying the framework.

So you are buying a Framework from the US? What is the delivery location? Pretty much everywhere Framework is set up they sell in the local economy. So I would assume that you would be buying a Framework computer from your own country.

As stated in previous posts, tariffs affect the US, and do not affect other areas, as the computers are shipped from Taiwan.

Just last week I bought a Framework 13 AMD. It shipped from Taiwan to the USA. I did not pay any extra import fees. US Customs held it for 1-2 days, but it was released without any additional fuss. I did literally nothing but wait a bit longer. The FedEx tracking info showed the status.

That said, govt is… unpredictable at times, and your experience may be different. But I had no issues other than the slight delay.

That is good to know. Thanks for sharing.

One thing I am worried about is getting a giant bill in the mail from customs after receiving the package. I am seeing people posting in the PRUSA forums who got invoices in the mail after buying a 3d printer from czech republic.

Yeah very unpredictable. Costco is now suing the government that these tariffs are unconstitutional.

Prusa is a Czech company producing their products out of the Czech Republic. That is also where their products ship from.

On the other hand Framework is an American company with manufacturing in Taiwan. They are the ones responsible for handling the logistics of customs and other items. If there was a fee that would be getting added to your purchase they are the ones responsible to inform you of that.

Currently I am unaware of ANY US computer manufacturer passing tariff costs on to the cosumer without notification of such.

FW know where they are manufacturing the product, and where you are. They work out what all the customs fees are going to be, and that is the price they present on their web site, with all tax included. That is why the price changes, depending on where you live.
I.e. price is different for USA than say France.

I think they paused orders when the taxes were changing too quickly, because they could not calculate the tax at order time. It has settled a bit now.
