Does the desktop work with thunderbolt docks?

I just got my framework desktop. i also have a caldigit ts3 doc. it seems to sometimes will show the display connected to the doc, but peripherals wont work. on boot though, it will not show anything on the monitor and i have to switch to hdmi, get past boot screen, and then go back to dock. anyone know if theres something inherent to the framework as to why it wont work?

I don’t have a direct answer for you. But will share that this poster described having a trouble free fully functioning experience with a TB5 Dock: Framework Desktop Video/Peripherals Over USB-C - #8 by bios_nerd
Maybe it’s the age of the doc? TB3 vs. TB5?

I am fairly new to Thunderbolt / USB 4.0, so is not authoritative: Compatibility is getting better, but my experience has shown that support for TB3 or older equipment is limited or flaky, especially on AMD. Apple has been using it for a long time. On the PC only Intel had it until recently, and now USB 4.0 has finally made it work fairly universally.

Another problem I ran into…. Linux was not enumerating things like my 10GBe adapter plugged into the hub until after I logged in… they call it security, but for a server role this is ridiculous. There is a “bolt” workaround I am going to try that forces hardware to be seen pre-login.

let me know if you get something figured out. id love to try it on my end

I’m using an OWC TB5 doc and it seems to work just fine

I plan to buy that too. Probably should now. Probably won’t go on sale for Black Friday or Cyber Monday on Amazon.
