I tend to avoid windows for things like this but does it still boot wen in the m.2 slot?
boots normal in m.2 slot with no issues.
Interesting, what kind of usb adapter are you using?
@Adrian_Joachim the usb enclosure below is what i have placed the Samsung 990 pro inside.

another update in the story is that I added an ubuntu partition on that same drive (while is was in the m.2 slot for a bit). form the m.2 slot it can dual boot to ubuntu or windows from the grub launcher.
when connected through the enclosure the framework only appears to see ubuntu in the boot menu but then fails to load it.
I guess then a pivot to a m.2 e-key to m-key adapter may be the easier solution there.
E key would be the wifi card correct?
If so are you suggesting that I go from k43sg to wifi or SSD to wifi?
My SSD max speed is 7.5 gbps that would be cut to 4gbps rough the e key wifi correct?
SSD to wifi slot. Something like this
Probably worse than that but not a lot worse than going to usb, youād still get roughly 1 or 2 GB/s depending on if the wifi slot is wired for pcie 3 or 4. With 10Gbit usb you only get a bit over 1GB/s too so removing the hasle of windows disliking being on external storage itās a worthwile tradeof imo. Mounting may be a bit awkward though.
Perhaps a combo of the m to e key and the extension below
I would like to avoid this if possibleā¦even just switching to Ubuntu as long as I can get steam working on ubuntu
Pretty sure I have seen something like that directly to m-key.
Ditching windows is another solution to the windows being windows problem XD
That is why I dual loaded Ubuntu onto the SSD. thinking that if I could get at least Ubuntu to boot from the external and then make sure my games worked on it I could remove windows once I confirmed everything worked (I didnāt want to remove windows until I new everything worked with Ubuntu as installing windows was a hassle all on itself
Is your thought that I might need to ditch windows entirely from that drive to get it to work in the first place?
Installing windows on an usb drive is an even bigger hassle XD
No, linux pretty happily boots of pretty much anything vaguely storage.
I still think going with a e-key to m-key adapter is the best solution if you arenāt suing that slot anyway.
I do have the wifi card in there right now but often hardwire through a USB hubā¦I am trying to find a m to e adapter with a cord similar to the one in my last post
Think I found a winner
Let me know if this looks right
Looks right to me
@Adrian_Joachim the m.2 m to e key converter came in. With the nvme SSD plugged into the converter and the converter plugged into my wifi card port boot manager does not seem to see the drive at allā¦ any suggestions? Any idea of there is anything in the framework and bios settings to enable search of that wifi card?
Also of noteā¦running the GPU through the k43sg while in a Ubuntu love session (from USB stick) does output video but for some reason when I switch to the egpu from integrated graphics the mouse pointer become invisable. It is still the as I can see it when I go over an icon but makes things pretty difficult.
Can you see the drive from a different os when itās plugged into that port (trying to figure out if itās a boot issue or a connection issue). You can just boot some form of linux of an usb stick while the ssd is plugged inot the wifi slot to check.
Also make sure you have the ribbon cables installed fully and the right way around.
I asume you mean gparted, if it doesnāt show up there itās very likely a connection issue, the most likely culprit there is the ribbon cable, you sure you inserted it fully and the right way around?
@Adrian_Joachim disks was the application on the app menu but I can check g parted as well. The converter came with the cable pre installed but I could try disconnecting and reconnecting for good measure.
If it doesnāt show up in lspci or āfdisk -lā it likely isnāt even connected. You can check dmesg if you get some pcie errors though just to make sure.
@Adrian_Joachim I tried lspci but did not fully understand the outputā¦is there some designator for what is is seeing at the wifi port?
