Currently, I’m thinking of a way to fit multiple 18650 cells into a housing that would go along the width of the laptop and use only 2 expansion card slots (one on one side is only for stability) with a Buck-boost converter to convert the charging voltage to the appropriate voltage. For this, I need to know the exact voltage it requires.

@Kieran_Levin mentioned [here](http://community.frame.work/t/what-voltage-is-required-to-charge-the-framework-laptop/5034/6) that there is an internal buck-boost capable of 5-20V.

Yep so that makes it a bit easier.

@Samuel_Murray I thought the same thing but was corrected on [DC plug expansion card for compatibility with more power adapters - #7 by GameFan](http://community.frame.work/t/dc-plug-expansion-card-for-compatibility-with-more-power-adapters/6480/7)

> [@DC plug expansion card for compatibility with more power adapters](http://community.frame.work/t/dc-plug-expansion-card-for-compatibility-with-more-power-adapters/6480/6):

> you would need to comply with the PD protocol and advertise the correct power to the device, and also support 5Vsafe to start negotiation of a PD contract.
> You cannot just apply power to the type-c input as the laptop needs to know the charger power to prevent overloading the charger as we control the power envelope of the system based on the negotiated power contract.

> I am a lot more excited about PD-Legacy charger adapters so I can continue to use my old laptops and only need type-c chargers :D.
