Fedora 44 KDE issues on Framework 16

Hi,

I’ve got a gen 2 FW16 with the AI 9 HX 370 and RTX 5070.

It ran flawlessly Fedora 43 KDE but after upgrading to 44 it wouldn’t recognise my keyboard, fingerprint scanner, and removeable media. External input devices were not recognised either.

Trying Fedora 44 on a live USB also did not work - plasmahell and kwin crashes immediately upon boot followed by black screen.

Additional info - lates BIOS, latest kernel.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately no idea how to fix it, but bumping as I’m also having this issue. I have however narrowed it down to being an issue with KDE, likely due to wayland, because Fedora 44 Gnome works flawlessly for me.

It’s definitely something to do with KDE and Wayland.

I hadn’t done any updates in a while so my first thought was something to do with the new 7.0 kernel, but it’s not that as the same kernel works fine with F43.

Then I thought it may be something with sddm but even with that switched off it still doesn’t work.

TTY session prior to logging into a graphical environment works perfectly fine. libinput debug-events works fine in TTY - no issues noted. Everything is great until you try to log into a Wayland session and then it’s no longer fine.

I spent a good few hours trying to debug it but can’t pinpoint the exact root cause.

FYI, Original FW16 here (AMD 7840 – batch 6? I think) and did the move to F44 close to 2 months back (I think it was 5/13).

and so far things are working fine.

(system started as F39, then ->F40->F41->F42->F44)

running KDE Plasma spin.

I’ll have to verify removeable media tomorrow, but typing on the built-in keyboard, fprint reader working fine (well no changes from earlier fedoras – I have the occasional on laptop wake up it doesn’t like the scanner at first – but subsequent unlocks, uses of fprint work fine – issue), etc.

I do have these graphics flags from way back still in my kernel args;
“amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x410 amdgpu.sg_display=0”
(been meaning to make time to try removing them and seeing if the werid issues come back – was for an older kernel in F41 era I think)

so different motherboard/CPU, but may be something specific to that?
