Fingerprint cable connector detaches from input cover

I have a Laptop 13, early generation.

The con1 connector has detached from the input cover. This is the connector which connects the fingerprint reader cable to the input cover. See photo.

My guess is that solving the problem requires replacing my input cover.

Since I just purchased a new 2nd gen fingerprint reader, is there a disadvantage with buying the slightly cheaper 1st gen input cover with my keyboard of choice (clear ANSI)?

The process which led me down the path includes:

  1. Constantly crashing computer, eventually blamed on CMOS battery wearing out
  2. As part of CMOS battery problem, purchased new SSD, which didn’t solve problems
  3. Problems with power button not working
  4. After testing, some keys from keyboard stopped working
  5. Replaced touchpad cable, which solved keyboard issues
  6. further testing led to noticing that con1 connector (for fingerprint cable) was loose

It appears that lots of testing led to cable problems and connector problems. Essentially, a dead CMOS battery resulted in spending quite a bit of money. Sure, new SSD is larger, but not really needed.

That seems to have come of pretty cleanly, should be relatively doable to re-solder for someone with moderate soldering skills.

The main difference between gen1 and gen2 keyboard is the stabilizers which are supposed to be less rattly in combination with the speakers, if the speakers aren’t a huge concern for you there seems to be little downside to getting the gen1.
