There’s a crease in my flex cable connecting the keyboard* layer to the motherboard. A couple of keyboard lines aren’t working (almost completely, also during boot) so I’m suspecting that a few channels there got cut.
Problem is, I can’t get anything delivered to me until around 2 months from now.
Is there any sort of fix I could do? Or a standard part I could source locally?
Thanks
Framework 13", intel, keyboard is v1, one of the first batches Framework had.
Not easily.
And a mistake could just make it worse. Of course the touchpad, fingerprint, and power button lines are also going over that cable.
Do you have any soldering experience? Soldering equipment?
No. The mainboard to input cover cable is custom. Standard cables would have been much more difficult for users, and more prone to the mainboard connector getting broken.
Hobbyist level, basic hobbyist equipment and I can probably drop by the local hackerspace see if they can help.
I live in a country Framework doesn’t deliver to yet. The forum rules don’t allow discussing freight shipping and this is an adjacent subject…
I’ll be in a relevant country in July, probably, and then I can order parts.
Are you aware of Frame Parts: frame-parts.myshopify.com? They say they do worldwide shipping, and say not-for-profit. Note on the front page: “If you need a part that is not on the website, just get in touch and we can order it in for you”. I don’t recall running across anyone report their experiences with getting parts through them.
