For MB purchasers: what case are you getting?

I am currently in the process of assembling it, however I am missing the fan, the psu and the ssd

Seems to me there should be enough Space for the fan though.

I had however to remove the sencondary ssd locking mechanism/cooler as it was pressing against the chassis (damn it was so close to fit perfectly!)

Sweet! Good luck with the build—the Terra is such a cute case.

I think I’ve seen a few people talking about that bottom SSD cooler getting in the way unless you do something with standoffs…

Thanks

I thought about doing so but then the back panel would not fit/be aligned with the cut in the back of the case

The hinge on the heat spreader is quite large and protrudes a lot. I had the same issue, ending up installing higher standoffs. The alighnment with the rear panel is out just slightly but still functional. Of course, I could have removed the spreader and used thick thermal pad instead

I have a question for those who purchased a case to use with the mainboard, what do you do for the wireless antennas? Since if you’re not using Framework’s case, there’s not really anywhere to use their antennas, unless you get creative.

Edit: rephrased question.

Intel AX 210

I realized I should have phrased my question better, I meant to ask what are people using for antennas since if Framework Desktop case isn’t being used, then they’ll have to find alternatives or be creative with the Framework antennas.

I wound this around my case. One leg inside and one outside

I picked up the framework antennas and AMD RZ717 Wi-Fi 7 card and used velcro tape to attach the antennas to my case.

I like the longer length of the antennas @FW4TeePee posted though and ordered a set to try out.

Was going to put the motherboard into a COOJ case. But the motherboards (not the 128GB) are stuck on “coming soon” for a long time, so unable to purchase one. Sigh.

Hi all, here is the baby now fully assembled!

I must admit the process of assembling it was not as smooth as I had anticipated, mostly out of stress of doing wrong, but I am pleased with the result. Only thing I’m a bit frustrated about is the fact I learned after receiving it that the fractal case in black gets marked with anything on the front panel. It can be cleaned but it doesn’t feel as premium as the price was.

Now I’m still fighting with software to learn more about Linux and set up the best environment possible but that’s another story.

Interesting, what did you use qua (specs) for PSU, Fan, SSD?

I just per-ordered the motherboard (128gb), originally I was batch 8 with full-desktop, but then I was reading about PSU noise problem. Now I’m pulling the trigger because of memory shortage problem for the coming years, with ssd’s also being affected.

Anyway, I’m interested in everyone’s build/experiences?

After buying the mb and not able to find a nice case I just bought the framework case and put in a fanless psu and color matched noctua fan. Enjoying a silent build and even saved a bit of cost compared to buying the kitted out desktop.

What fanless PSU did you put in?

I already ordered wifi-card + atntennas from Framework, and don’t mind paying another 12 euro shipping cost. If I go your route, still looking at Cases/PSUs, everything is still on table when it comes to those parts.

I went a little overkill for the psu

I always have worked with corsair, they are very good quality PSUs. This time I went for the SF850. 850w is way overkill but the fans never turn on, it is rated platinium, so very high efficiency, and it cost me the same price the framework psu was.

For the ssd I went with a SN8100 although a SN850x would have done a great job too.

The fan is the same one as framework recommendation, a noctua, but i went for the new black version I found much more pleasant looking

Yes 850w is abit overkill, but it’s SFX so it will ways be overkill as I have not seen one lower than 650w. Atleast you get platinium efficiency at full load :stuck_out_tongue: and may be 80% at idle.

Also did you use a normal width fan (2.5mm), I’m asking because on paper this should not fit with that case max moveble spine? Also did you install wifi-card, if so what is your antenna setup. As that case is aluminum case I think, so a antenna should be outside the faraday cage.

I went for NF-A12x25 PWM chromax.black.swap, which is indeed 120x120x25. Someone told me the same but i didn’t encounter any issue while mounting it inside the case, i have a bin margin left.
No wifi card yet, i’m waiting for some rakuten cashback to invest, i’m aiming at a BE200 with antennas mounted on a Pcie card lock mechanism

Does the BE200 work with the AMD processor in the Desktop? Previous Framework laptops with AMD processors lock up using this wifi card.
