Hello Framework Community!
This is my first post and I am excited to report on my first experience with the Framework 12
History:
I acquired this Framework 12 on the local market for a steal of a deal. It was a DIY unit in sage spec’d with Sage Full body Kit, i5-1334U, 32gb Ram, 1tb NVME, and 3 Type C Sage and a single Type A. No OS as they wiped it to sell.
Initial Setup:
- Initially I went with CachyOS and ran in to a variety of problems.
- I then went with Nobara Linux 43, Honestly one of the most painless installs I’ve had. Nothing much to note here as I just followed the guide for Nobara.
I will have a more in depth post in the Framework 12 Linux Catagory.
Daily Use:
- There is already a thread but the lack of a backlight is crippling.
- Battery is fine for me and I always enough charge to get me around, I will follow with an update on actual runtime.
- Speakers are extremely basic and would love to see upgraded speakers at some point.
- Keyboard/ Track-pad is pleasant and clicky.
- Screen is plenty bright and color accurate enough for content consumption, the touch works great and is accurate with the stylus.
Upgrades People UPGRADES
I personally didn’t want one in sage but the price was so good I couldn’t say no and bought the bubblegum body kit after the fact.
Installation of the body kit was easy except:
- When installing and adjusting the top to bottom body alignment. For some reason I had to loosen and re-tighten the bottom hinge screws multiple times until they centered.
- The Bubblegum, blue rubber seems to be made of a different material than the sages edge, and while doing the install it started returning back to dinosaur. Which was disappointing. (Photos Attached)
- Does the bottom chassis usually come without the stickers? (Photos Attached)
Closing Out
I am super happy with my purchase and look forward to a long road of upgrades to it.
Excited to hear if people had similar experiences or if I’m just plum lucky.
Thank you for the read!
