Framework 12 Keyboard Stiff (?)

I got my first Framework Laptop ever a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love this. However, coming from a Mac (MacBook Air and standalone Magic Keyboard) before this and a mechanical keyboard in my daily life (MX Browns), I find the keyboard to be a little “stiff”: in the sense that I need to have just a tiny little more force to actually press down on the keys.

Now, keyboards are completely personal and I understand many people here never even would have a remotely close issue to this. But, I just wanted to know if this was a shared sentiment in the community. I feel like despite the nice travel and ergonomics, I have been slightly mistyping words because I do not press the keys with that little extra force at the end.

Obviously, the more I use it the more my fingers get used to it. Just wanted to know if this is a shared sentiment.

I agree. As you say, I have gotten used to it. But I’m a fairly “light” typer and initially found I “missed” a lot of letters when I was typing quickly. I have gotten more used to it and the issue with missing letters is mostly gone for me. Overall, I do prefer a slightly lower key actuation force, just because it’s what I’m used to after decades of laptop use.

Yes. I find the keyboard a bit stiff to type on. And have had to relearn my typing technique.

Exactly this!! It is very evident as I have to type like 10-12 pages of LaTeX on almost a daily basis, and quite a lot of coding (well, the FW12 is merely a SSH client into my GPU machine). I’ll go on to type and only realize while proofreading that I have made mistakes.

It is definitely getting better as I use the keyboard more. Apart from that, I love this laptop unlike anything else. Best OOTB Desktop Linux experience I have had, ever.

I would like to see how the engineering behind the keyboard is done, and how they came up with this (i.e. is the stiffness a side effect of repair-ability or is actually preferred by many).
