That tab that you pull to lock/unlock the expansion cards can fail.
I’ve been using my FW12 since I got it in August, (batch 8, I think) and it has been mostly good so far. I mostly use it for video content, and writing.
When watching videos, I find that I remove/replace the ports as a way to fidget, (ADHD probably) so I’ve easily used the mechanism several hundreds of times, as opposed to normal people’s probably 10’s of times.
How it fails:
The ports can be removed regardless of the state of the lock.
When in the locked state, the tab that holds the card in place can be manually pushed back into place. When the card is then inserted, it is properly held in place.
If the port is then unlocked, it can not be properly locked until the retention tab is manually moved back into place.
I already have a new bottom cover in hand, because of the cracking issue so I don’t need another replacement. (yet)
