I installed Fedora 44 and was trying to install updates (by running “sudo dnf upgrade”), and it would download the updates, but then display “failed to obtain rpm transaction lock,” so I rebooted. Upon reboot, it would show “error: invalid environment block” on the top left corner and no longer boot into the UI asking for my user password, but would ask the password for my disk (please enter passphrase for disk…), and entering the password would not do anything. The first time it loaded for a while until displaying emergency mode due to root account locked, seeming to not recognize the disk. I tried disabling secure boot and trying again, but it seemed to have no effect.
I tried pressing escape when prompted for disk password, entering it in the console, then it was displaying a cable error, which seems to have disappeared after removing the expansion cards. However, then it displayed (in alternation) “(1 of 2) Job dracut-initqueue.servistart running ([time in x min y s] / no limit)” and “(2 of 2) Job dev-disk-by\x2duuid-f4start running ([time in x min y s] / no limit” for a few minutes until it had a timeout error and then started printing these same messages with “Warning: dracut-initqueue: timeout, still waiting for the following initqueue hooks:” … in between. (At which point it was only possible to exit this by powering off.)
On my final attempt, I pressed esc when prompted for the password, entered the password there, then it had some sort of issue “Dependency failed for cryptsetup.target - Local Encrypted Volumes” but proceeded to display OK for system initialization and basic system, only to prompt for the password again and have the same dracut timeout happen.
