Framework 13 7640u

Hello all,

My framework 13 currently has a 7640u and I’m looking at upgrading it to the Ryzen 9 370. Currently using windows, so wanted to ask if a clean windows install was preferred or should I just pop my nvme over to the new mainboard?

Also, what’s the going price on used 7640u mainboards as I’d be looking at dumping mine?

You might avoid some driver issues and such if you start with a clean install. I would say a clean install is “best practice.” But chances are, you could pop the drive on the new board, boot Windows, and then just install the driver package for that board and you’d be okay.

Price for your mainboard is tough to say. You could look around to see if you can find listings, or even better, sold listings, so you can see what they are actually selling for. The other option is just to see what they go for new, knock your price down as much as you are comfortable with from there and see if you get any takers.

Both should work. In the past I would’ve said clean install is probably preferred, but Windows has gotten a bit better about hardware changes.

$250 - $300 maybe. Obviously depends on your location, shipping and similar stuff.
