We have just received our new Framework 13, specifically for my son’s Linux college course. After installing Ubuntu, the official HDMI adapter that came with it does not work. We have tried different adapter ports and unplugging/replugging the adapter and cable many times, but it seems completely dead.

How can we diagnose what the issue could be?

It’s worth trying the monitor with something else (this checks the monitor) and then using another HDMI cable (this checks the cable). It is tempting to believe the first thing also checks the cable, but HDMI cables can be surprisingly fussy: they can work with one hardware pairing but not another.

is it on ubuntu only? did it work on whatever originally was installed?

So we tried a usb-C to HDMI cable and that seemed to work perfectly from one of the USB-C ports.

So, we then replugged the HDMI cable into the HDMI adapter on the laptop and then into a different HDMI port on the monitor and it came to life. So, I’m not quite sure what exact change made it work, but it is working fine now.

Appreciate the input and quick responses, thanks!
