Framework 13 Cooling Options

My Ryzen 7040 laptop is always docked, lid closed. Today I tried flipping the laptop upside down, exposing the air vents upwards. This reduced my temps by 11ºC under load, compared to just placing it normally on a table that’s already warm from the workload. It’s better than placing raisers under the laptop and is comparable to having the laptop fully open while holding it in the air. I don’t know why it took me more than a year to find this.

Hey, just wanted to ask if you every encountered any issues running the laptop like this. I’ve never thought about this, and I might start running an upside down configuration in the futre as well…

did it really improve cause i can work with that, i took MB out and put in a 3dprinted enclosure with a small usb fan and it was awesome put back in chassis and frequently hitting 100 degrees

My fan died a few weeks ago, but that is an unrelated issue. The first symptoms already showed up months before I tried flipping my laptop over.

I have been running my new fan upside down for a month now with no problems. Just don’t rotate the laptop too quickly if the fan is at high RPM. Otherwise the fan could grind against the chassis.
