Framework 16 7840HS + RX 7700s | Graphical artifacts and Steam crashing loop on Fedora

Since installing Fedora (43, then 44), my Framework 16 7840HS + RX 7700s has had graphical issues. Most notably, graphical artifacts flicker at the bottom of the desktop screen, and recently, Steam has been caught in a startup-boot-and-crash loop; removing and reinstalling Steam does not fix it. Updating the Framework 16 BIOS and firmwareand forcing an update to the AMD GPU drivers have not resolved these issues either. Has anyone experienced these problems with Fedora?

I’ve noticed the same thing since moving over to Fedora - graphical artifacts appearing towards the top of my screen (where my taskbar is located).

Is your taskbar adaptive or translucent? And is your background set to a slideshow? If so then I think we have the same problem. I’ve also noticed that it doesn’t happen when I boot into Windows, which leads me to believe that the issue is with Fedora rather than the laptop.

What do the artifacts you guys see look like? I’ve just installed Gentoo and occasionally get artifacts like this where the window I’m looking at seems to go translucent in spots for an instant. I was able to drastically reduce this issue by building my system with support for X, so I suspect this issue is related to the relationship between X, XWayland, and Wayland, but I never had such issues when I was on Fedora.

It only happens when there’s movement on screen, e.g. scrolling, and doesn’t happen in games. I’m pretty sure this means it’s tied to the compositor, which in my case is kwin.
