Has anyone had this issue where the franework 16 for some reason, will only charge at one angle on port 1 top left?
I tried the battery disconnect function in the bios, hitting the chassis intrusion button 10 times 2 seconds each, i also tried a bios update but didn’t help. I also contacted support, and so far they have not responded.
I am using the framework charger and it will only charge on the left if the cable is pointing towards me, not the back of the laptop. the right side works fine. I tried using a different cable as well, same issue.
I also tried charging directly on the usb c port itself without a expansion card, and it does the same thing.
i checked that, and it works fine on other devices, both angles. I tried one of my own cables and plugged it into their own adapters and its the same thing. I even tried plugging my own cable to the FW charger, and its pretty much the same symptoms.
Yes, actually. I was able to “fix” the issue by flipping the board in the expansion card and had it working at the angle I wanted it. For my card, I think it is an issue with the expansion card itself and not the native port on the laptop chassis. I think that there’s just something wrong with the board (of the expansion card) and I would contact support if you don’t want it to only work one way like I decided to have it.
I don’t think its a expansion card issue with mine cause i tried using the usb c expansion card that is in port 4 to charge and it works fine both angles, but when i swap this one and the other to port 1, they only work one angle, so clearly theres something wrong with the mainboard usb c.
If you have not already done so contact support and start a case with them. From the descriptions it does sound like it is one of the ports on the mainboard that may not be soldered or connected properly.
If it is within the support period it may be covered under warranty. Support should be able to help out either way. Fortunately the other ports are working fine so far? It just does not charge in one of the two orientations of the cable.
That does make sense. I think the mainboard port is either damaged or it needs cleaned out. probably some of the connectors on one of the sides are dirty or damaged to be specific
On rare occasions I manage to find little pieces of lint or ?? That managed to make it into my phone connector USBC. My last phone had something stuck in the port and would only charge if I connected it just right and never touched the phone.
One day, I looked inside the port with a magnifier at work and sure enough something small, thin, and dark was wedged in there. Fished it out carefully with a thin wire and it was working just like new!
Probably not your case here. It just amazed me something that small managed to get wedged in there and was partially blocking some contact pins.
That’s crazy! Thankful you got everything fixed at least. I’ll check out the port on my expansion card again to see if there’s anything inside so I can get it to work both ways again. Thanks!
