Framework Control (Linux/Windows) - A tool for: Fan Control (Curve), Sensors, Power Control, Battery Information

That’s exactly why I made this version. I needed something simple and predictable.

The app doesn’t have a “front-end” app that it installs to keep it lightweight. It uses whatever browser you have installed to display the UI. I tried to make it look seamless by sending a pram to the browser to not show the browser-y bits but that might not be working properly for you. Try creating new shortcuts in the settings and see if they make a difference.

I think this answers your question on why the Microsoft Edge is being shown in the pin. If you’re really determined, you can find a way to create a custom shortcut that links to the browser of your choice with the icon you like and pin that. But that’s going to be a more manual process.

The two observations you made on the new version is correct and that’s the intended behavior. The 0.4.2 version had a bug where it was setting the battery limit to 100% when the limit was disabled forcing you to be 100% max. That was not ideal so 0.4.3 fixed that. Now disabling the limit simply does nothing as expected and the rest is up to the UEFI and the OS to decide what to do. If it requires a reboot, you will have to reboot unfortunately.

I agree the uninstall is not where I want it to be yet. I’ve only had time to implement clean up the very necessary bits like uninstalling RyzenAdj and the executable itself. I will likely also make it clean up the icons, install folder, settings in the future. I just didn’t have time to cover them yet.

Maybe Edge updated itself to make things harder for standalone apps? To answer your question why Edge pops up, see the above answer. I might be able to try and reproduce this if I get time. I’d also suggest you to try and add the icon to desktop from the settings again and try dragging that one to the taskbar

I have not considered that. Getting their support would be nice, but the app will likely exist as long as I own this laptop. If I can get my current one fully functioning again, that would be a good start :smile:

Although I appreciate the support team’s efforts, my recent experience has been disappointing. It took a week to arrange a replacement mainboard and another two weeks for it to arrive, only for it to show up poorly packaged and bent. A new one is on the way. I have all my fingers crossed that they package it properly this time.

Thankfully, the laptop is still kicking, but if it failed completely, I doubt I would get a quick resolution. Any issues also need to be reported to my manager because this is my main work device. This whole situation has left me feeling less confident and supported, and I’m starting to wonder if I made the right choice using this platform for work.

Yeah looks like it’s still “in progress” but the flagging is removed so maybe in time?

It’s a shame that the framework team didn’t help you develop this application, and they didn’t even post on this forum to offer assistance or thank you for your work.

Furthermore, the poor technical support for your laptop makes it even more questionable

A company like framework should take better care of its users and support them in their projects.

Perhaps you should contact them for development support. I doubt they’ll respond here.

They should have done the work you did, especially considering the number of users who requested an application like this.

Honestly, this is how the whole journey started for me. I needed a tool to control the overly aggressive default fan curve. I did not mind the temperatures, since laptops naturally get warm, but the constant ramping up and down of the fans drove me to search for any solution I could find.

Ideally, I wanted to use the familiar Fan Control. application, but the Framework 16 did not work with it. At that time, the EC_tool did not support fan control on the Laptop 16. Even after a full year since the laptop’s release, it became clear that Windows was not a high priority for the developers. I spent almost a month searching for a solution without success, while my laptop continued to spin up loudly whenever I launched something as simple as a web browser.

Eventually, I decided to roll up my sleeves and start this project myself. At first, I could not get anything working. No tool could control the fans properly, and some available workarounds required unsafe boot settings. I felt pretty stuck. I also didn’t have the resources and the time to build my own kernel-level tool; that stuff needs extensive approval from Microsoft and is not trivial.

Back in June, when I began looking into this, I opened an issue in the official framework-system repository requesting fan support for the Framework 16 on Windows. When all was gloom and hope was lost, @Daniel_Schaefer came in clutch! He implemented and released the EC feature for the Laptop 16! I finally had a clear path forward; for that, I’m grateful. Yes, something as basic as fan control CLI should have been available from day one, but regardless.

Fast forward to today, we now have a solid controller UI/app available. I hope to get my laptop repaired soon so I can finish and release the Linux version. The only reason I’ve made it this far is the positive feedback from all of you, so thank you!

So, all hope is not lost, devs do help and try to actively maintain their ec_tool ecosystem. I just don’t think they have the time and resources for a UI. That’s where I come in :flexed_biceps:

Brother, please add a donate link to the product site, or to your git repo. This tool looks amazing and I certainly cant wait to test it on on a linux distro.

Wife has a f16 on windows Ive been meaning to install this on as well.

Quick question: does the “reset” button in the “fan curve” setting actually apply the OEM fan curve (the same as “Auto” setting does)?

The software’s “resetted” curve sounds way more aggressive than the OEM curve. It also never actually stop the fans, the OEM curve does. Am I missing something? :slight_smile:

Me bet is. Reset just set default created by app author Auto means OEM fAn curve

@wojciech_migas is right. I don’t have access to the default fan curve values. They may even change the defaults with updates. The reset button just goes back to a sensible default that I decided most people would be safe with.

Hi! Just got a framework and had an issue with the fan speed like many others, so trying to install this program! However, when running the installer, I get this error:

This is a new Windows install, and the only account is administrator, so I’m not sure what the issue is :frowning: if anybody has seen this/has any advice for me to try, I’d really appreciate the help!

will there be a support for 2nd gen framework 16 with AI 300 series and linux support? So far it seems to only be for windows sadly.

I haven’t seen this issue before. Seems like an OS configuration issue, even though the user is administrator, it’s somehow not able to start the system service. I would try to debug why that is.

I am currently working on the Linux version but things are taking a bit longer than anticipated with my busy schedule. The 2nd gen ai300 processors already work with the existing app.
