If I was going to spend anything like what it would cost to pick up two Sparks, I’d just grab the Blackwell Pro and plug it into my existing rig.

Fair enough, for most people, a single RTX6000 Pro will be much better than two Sparks.

Woot! Finally, now just wait for the shipping / tracking!

Ha! What I would do for a RTX 6000 Pro in my home lab lol. I just can’t justify $8500+ when Runpod.io and like services are available for my personal use at a steep discount comparatively speaking.

Now, in the office is a different story, but we haven’t hit the point were that makes financial sense yet either. We mostly do overnight batch processing and elastic compute makes more sense than dedicated hardware at this point, but that is slowly changing as we adopt new processes.

Ah, that changed from your initial days with it. Happier now that I didn’t jump on the discount offering.

Same let’s gooooo I think that deal in China smoothed it over……

I use runpod too, but it gets annoying really quickly when you need to try switch out models, try different model settings, etc. Plus their privacy policy (consumer-facing) is a bit shady.

I’ve also experienced networking bottlenecks, instance availability issues on popular GPUs…

Booyah!

Shipped! Looks like it’s shipping straight from Taiwan so unclear ETA on delivery here to New York.

Shipped for me too! The tracking says it’ll arrive on the 10th (Spain) :crossed_fingers:

Any mainboard only folks who got charged already?

FYI : Still waiting for the Netherlands.

That would suck if we’re put to the back of a Batch queue in lieu of prioritizing full Desktop orders. I cancelled my Batch 14 desktop [due to the PSU issue] and kept my Batch 15 mainboard. OTOH, it just may be the intersection of Desktop % vs. Mainboard % vs. Community Forum membership vs. reads this thread … is a small intersection.

sorry I gotta ask… is there anything wrong with the fan I selected? – CPU Fan: Noctua - NF-A12x25 HS-PWM – I keep seeing rumors about noisy fans but I don’t know the details.

did I buy the f**k-up lemon or did I dumb luck out and accidentally order the quieter one?

The issue is with the PSU fan, not the APU fan. Noctua seems to be particularly silent, but except if you bought the main board only you may notice the PSU fan kicking in from time to time. It seems to be the PSU struggling to dissipate heat smoothly, hence require its small 12 mm fan to start. Apparently no ramp up, it start all in with a annoying high pitch.

Among solutions keeping a permanent low speed on the APU fan (very silent) helps circulating the air inside the case hence the PSU stay cool longer. Another user mentioned elevating the case on feet to dissipate heat from the bottom of the PSU.

Any way, I am willing to test it as is and say if the issue is real. Another solution would be to invest in another passive cooling PSU in the ATX format, but I am not there yet, having already spent 2500 euros of the « fun with computers budget 2025/2026 ».

Check the relation « noisy PSU » topic for more info.

yup … thanks. hopefully it won’t sound noisy to me out of the box.

this is my dream come true machine – I almost bought a Mac Studio then stumbled on this – definitely my “Year of the Linux Desktop”
