I’m curious if there will be improved performance after all the weird hiccups are figured out (e.g., unintended performance reduction due to power profiles, new AMD drivers, etc.)

Yeah, I wonder that, too. I’m hopeful

First nvme orderd. I went with Samsung 990 Pro (2TB), was on pretty good sale. This will be the main drive. But I am thinking of getting a another drive, maybe a little cheaper one. Any suggestions?

My FW13 has a Lexar NM790 and it has been good for laptop usage, as it has a better efficiency than some of the “big players”.

Similar thing here, but TrueNAS Community. I have a Jonsbo N3 and a new Broadcom 9500-8i. Batch 13 though, so it will be quite the wait for me.

Because of that x4 limitation though, I bought a 15cm ADT-Link K28SL-TL directly from their site (adt.link) which is a high quality x4 to x8 riser cable (make sure to select the right model on that page for you).

Ooooo exciting, although its still going to take a little bit longer to make it out here to Australia.

Originally I was going to try to do some PCIe magic with the FD Case, but then I realized I would probably have to do something destructive to get any external connections to the PCIe HBA. I ended up finding a USB4 8-bay DAS:
USB 4.0 (40Gbps) Type-C 8 Bay 2.5 Inch and 3.5 Inch SATA Hard Drive External Hard Drive Enclosure – SY-ENC50129

And it’s being sold for a decent price here:

PROVANTAGE: SYBA Multimedia, Inc SY-ENC50129 USB 4.0 (40GBPS) Type-C 8 Bay 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch SATA Hard Drive External Hard

I contacted Syba to figure out if the unit uses a port-multiplier to handle all eight ports. Turns out, it’s using two ASM1164 to control the ports - one for drives #1-4, the other for drives #5-8 - which seems similar to how the QNAP TL-D800S handles its eight ports. And then the Syba unit uses an ASM2464 to provide the USB4 connectivity. We’ll see how this works out! Should be interesting…

That’s pretty sick! Uses USB 4 too which is great and if it’s got that chip it surely means it’s using PCIe tunneling right?! Which is a win for NAS as they’re not so good with the USB protocol. Nice find :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’m hoping it’ll work well! I don’t have any experience using Syba / IO Crest products, so hopefully this will be an opportunity for them to shine!

Hooray! Thanks for the heads-up.

I’m guessing Tuesday next week.

Getting impatient, my current PC is being difficult/unstable. But this close to being replaced theres no reason to spend time troubleshooting

I was hoping that we would have gotten them today as there was Laptop 12 batches twice this week.

But propably next tuesday then and shipments during the same week. One can hope…

They’ve been roughly managing an update once a week. Batch 6 was sept 8th. (monday)
So guessing mon/tues for next batch 15/16th
