Every year at Framework is exciting but 2022 was especially important. We took major steps towards our mission of remaking consumer electronics to respect people and the planet. We fulfilled promises, extended our reach into new regions and categories, and created infrastructure to help us grow. On top of this, we watched our community expand and create some amazing things! We couldn’t do any of this without you. Here is a list of major milestones from the past year.

### We kept our promise on upgradeability

- We launched the [Framework Laptop (12th Gen Intel Core)](https://frame.work/products/laptop-diy-12-gen-intel) with a giant leap in CPU performance and a new [CNC Top Cover](https://frame.work/products/top-cover-cnc), but even more importantly, we released an [Upgrade Kit](https://frame.work/products/12-gen-intel-upgrade-kit) allowing users to upgrade their existing laptops to get all of the improvements.
- We received awesome feedback about the 12th Gen laptop from reviewers! We recommend these reviews: [Tom’s Hardware](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/framework-laptop-12th-gen-2022), [Digital Trends](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/i-upgraded-my-framework-laptop-cpu-in-under-15-minutes/), [Liliputing](https://liliputing.com/2022/07/framework-laptop-review-modular-repairable-upgradeable-laptop-with-a-12th-gen-intel-core-processor.html).

### We continued to push open source hardware and software

- We [open sourced our Embedded Controller (EC) firmware](https://frame.work/blog/open-sourcing-our-firmware) and made it available on [GitHub](https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/EmbeddedController) for you to modify if you wish.
- We released a 3D printable Mainboard Case, and [open sourced our Mainboard drawings and electrical documentation](https://frame.work/blog/mainboard-availability-and-open-source-release) in a [Github repository](https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/Mainboard).
- We created a [Linux compatibility page](https://frame.work/linux) to help Linux users get up and running with their favorite distributions on the Framework Laptop.

### We built solid infrastructure to keep growing on

- We completed a [Series A fundraising round](https://frame.work/blog/frameworks-series-a-and-the-years-ahead) and raised $18M to bring our mission and product philosophy to new areas.
- We expanded into five new countries! Our current list of orderable countries include: US, Canada, Germany, UK, Ireland, Austria, Netherlands, Australia and France. If you’re in a country that we don’t currently ship to please[register your country on our waitlist](https://frame.work/locale/edit) so we can prioritize our expansion.
- We overhauled our [logistics](https://frame.work/blog/now-in-stock-and-how-a-framework-laptop-gets-from-the-factory-to-you) and [supply chain](https://frame.work/blog/manufacturing-starts-on-the-new-framework-laptop-in-taiwan) to reduce our environmental footprint and centralize production in Taiwan!

### We began building an ecosystem of products around the Framework Laptop

- We launched the highly anticipated [Ethernet Expansion Card](https://frame.work/products/ethernet-expansion-card).
- The Framework Laptop Mainboard became available in the [Marketplace](https://frame.work/marketplace/mainboards) for purchase as a standalone module.
- We launched a [Refurbished program](https://frame.work/blog/closing-the-loop-with-refurbished-framework-products) in the US and Canada (with a plan to expand to other regions in the future) with the [Refurbished Framework Laptop (11th Gen Intel Core)](https://frame.work/products/refurbished-laptop-diy-11-gen-intel) and [Refurbished Expansion Card Pack](https://frame.work/products/refurbished-expansion-card-pack-2-usb-c-1-usb-a-1-hdmi). This program is extremely important to our company as it is mission-aligned with our efforts to make products last as long as possible.
- We launched the [Speaker Kit - 80dB](https://frame.work/products/speaker-kit) for those who want a little more loudness. This is currently in stock in Germany, UK, Ireland, Austria, Netherlands, Australia and France only.

### We started some fantastic partnerships

- We began our partnership with [Running Tide](https://www.runningtide.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAheacBhB8EiwAItVO2-HMe9i7Wqa_X4bpAei9dM18NOa3GmqXf4SZvSYW_3Xpt9HiqeE9qBoCcVEQAvD_BwE), a carbon sequestering company located in Maine. Running Tide’s carbon sequestering involves literally sinking carbon in the ocean through floating bio-buoys that grow kelp micro forests over a period of months and then sink to the ocean floor, sequestering carbon for hundreds to thousands of years. You can now purchase 334 kg of carbon capture in our [Marketplace](https://frame.work/products/carbon-capture) to make your laptop carbon neutral.
- We extended our Linux distro partnerships, providing a number of development units to project leads and maintainers. We also chatted with the [Manjaro team](https://frame.work/blog/spotlight-on-manjaro-linux-interview-with-the-team) and [Matthew Miller from the Fedora team](https://frame.work/blog/spotlight-on-fedora-linux-interview-with-matthew-miller) on what gets them excited about the Framework Laptop.
- We announced our partnership with Google and launched the [Framework Laptop Chromebook Edition](https://frame.work/products/laptop-chromebook-12-gen-intel) in the US and Canada, bringing unprecedented performance and flexibility to ChromeOS.

### We saw an incredibly capable and creative community grow

- To accelerate the ecosystem around the Framework Mainboard, we gave away free Mainboards for community development.
- And while there are hundreds of projects out there, here are just 10 that caught our eye:

1. [Aluminum/3D Printed Mainboard Enclosure](http://community.frame.work/t/aluminum-3d-printed-main-board-enclosure/24923)
2. [Framework Tablet](https://www.instructables.com/Framework-Tablet-Assembly-Manual/)
3. [Keyboard PC](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewVp96JN0nQ&ab_channel=ElevatedSystems) [(and this one, too)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeYfKu9KlTg&ab_channel=ElevatedSystems)
4. [Magnetic charging Expansion Card](http://community.frame.work/t/full-power-magnetic-charging-card/10113)
5. [Transparent Framedeck](https://github.com/brickbots/framedeck/blob/main/docs/build_tour.md)
6. [Mainboard Terminal](https://github.com/penk/MainboardTerminal)
7. [Solokeys - Solo2 Expansion Card](https://github.com/foosinn/Solo4Framework)
8. [Input Cover Controller](https://www.tindie.com/products/crimier/framework-input-cover-controller/)
9. [Parts Tray for Framework Laptop](https://whatthefilament.com/products/parts-tray-for-framework-laptop)
10. [Adjustable Framework Laptop Stand](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5192872)

As the year closes, we feel so grateful for all of your interest and enthusiasm. Thank you for believing in this mission and the products that deliver on it! We’re committed to remaking consumer electronics and we’re excited to share more next year!

I really REALLY hope Framework introduces more design patterns for users to choose from in 2023, especially on things like:

- 15-inch (or higher) display model
- OLED display option
- 120Hz refresh rate in the display
- 2K resolution (or higher)
- 16:9 display ratio

Also, it would be great if we focus on things like:

- Decreasing the size of the port and card so user can more than 4 cards.
- Increasing the battery quality and size.
- Magnetifying the cards to make it more hazzle free and smooth.

Edit:
Thank you. Your product is amazing. As a Linux user, this products means a lot to me.

Thanks for all the hard work! I am really happy for framework!

This Year-in-review post would be a good newsletter post. I got the newsletter with all small announcement like “Chromebook out” and “Thunderbolt 4 certified”. Strangly I cannot find this summary. Maybe post it again? It not too late.
