I thought that Framework Laptop 12 is do tasks of Engineers. Such as AutoCAD, etcs.
The Framework 12 is more a cheaper robust laptop/tablet for school, university, travel, mobile work and similar stuff.
You definitely can do CAD stuff on it, but the screen is of course on the smaller side, and the performance isn’t on the level of a high end work pc.
I finished Aerospace Engineering masters with a Core M passively cooled laptop with no major problems. If you want to go for the Laptop 12, go for it!
Been thinking about it and reading processor benchmarks. Single thread performance is what I am looking for (CAD). the i5 of the FW12 is about 20% slower than the cheapest ryzen of the FW13, which has the same single thread performance of the mid-range ryzen of the FW13.
If I consider the maturity of the FW13, and how the FW12 is coming up with some hardware issues, subpar screen and the like, seems that the FW13 will be better suited for CAD and professional use.
Then again, Linux. FW12 seems to work better out of the box than FW13 it seems..
Still undecided… but leaning towards the FW13 with the low end chip.
If you don’t need the touchscreen and the somewhat smaller size and can aford it the 13 is better in pretty much all other categories (usb4, backlit keyboard, full size ssd support, 2 ram slots, higher resolution screens…)
My dream tech that small size, but can handle powerful tasks.
