I dont know either, but i assume it is, since i have never seen a post about an Alpha version
Itās an interesting situation, because I was pretty excited about the upgrade at first. Right after rebooting, I could tell something was changed because the fan would quickly spin up and down, which was distracting, but it turns out it helped a lot with performance.
Some benchmarks I was doing saw a three-fold performance increase! It was a amazing.
Unfortunately, it seems to be on-and-off. Like right now, I donāt hear the fan spin up anymore, and I donāt see the performance gain anymore either. It seems those gains are lost after a reboot. Iām not exactly sure how to tell if Iām being throttled (i7z doesnāt seem to confirm the issue, in fact), but it just feels wrong right now.
In fact, if anything, what is happening is not as much that Iām throttled down to 400Mhz, but I can never hit āturboā (which is, i believe 4.4GHz, according to i7z. So I think thereās a problem, still, and itās actually been there for a while!
Would love to test a beta, whenever youāre ready!
12th Gen 3.18 Beta is released.
Fedora Workstation Software center told me thereās a BIOS update today. Clicked install and restart. Everything ran flawlessly. Back up and running in 5 minutes. Things are improving for sure. Sorry there are still some hiccups and struggles here and there, but some of us are noticing the improvements, Framework!
