Framework Laptop 16 (AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series) does not start

I finally received my Framework Laptop 16 DIY Edition from Batch 7 today and was initially thrilled. Assembly was very straightforward and quick. However, when I tried to install Windows 11, I simply could not get the laptop to start, no matter what I did.

I assembled my Framework Laptop 16 DIY according to the instructions, installed a primary SSD and RAM, and then connected it to power. The red LED stays on continuously. When I press the power button, it lights up white, but nothing else happens. The screen remains black. The USB stick connected for installing Windows 11 briefly lights up, but nothing further occurs. The fans do not make any noise, and the keyboard backlight does not turn on. By holding the power button for 15 seconds, I can turn the device off again.

I tried starting the laptop without the SSD to see if an error message would appear, but the screen remained black. I also tried different RAM modules, but the system still does not work. Furthermore, I attempted to start the laptop using only a single USB-C expansion card for power, but that does not work either.

how long have you waited after powering on? first power on can take couple minutes because of the RAM training.

I waited for 30 min

usually it takes 2-5 minutes. have you tried with one module? can you provide RAM model?

what are led color just after powering on. it should tell which test passes Framework Laptop 16 Blink Code Diagnostic

I found the cause. One of the pins in one of the memory slots is bent.

Oh no! I am glad you found the culprit. It will still POST with one module though. So maybe it can at least be used until a new mainboard arrives.

Let us know how it turns out.
