I suggest getting the LM off, and replace it with PTM 7950 pad, as per the FW instruction video.

I don’t even see the Liquid Metal anywhere and I kinda broke the thermal pad

It’s look like you ripped the chip of the package, don’t touch anything and contact support. it’s very likely you need a motherboard\* replacement.

That plate is part of the heatsink.

You can see that the LM seeped away to the side, you just need to clean it up and then install a PTM or paste.

I have removed the plate myself, cleaned it up with sandpaper and put a copper shim and sandwich of PTM for better performance of the heatsink.

The Liquid Metal, used in the FW16, is not liquid all the time.
So, it will look solid in the photos you have there.
It only gets liquid at about 30 C.
When I removed the LM on my FW laptop, I was in a room at about 18 C, so the LM looked solid like you have in the picture you posted.

Look at the pictures here for what it should look like once you have cleaned the LM off.

it posts fine though and even goes into linux and seems fine on thermels still (i didnt remove very much and did a geekbench benchmark couldnt reach cloudflare though at the time)

Wrong, there is 2 kinds of liquid metal. 1 that becomes hard/solid when cold and then a liquid metal that stays liquid all the time.

Ps5 uses the more liquid one and some laptops manufactory does aswell.

The GPU doesn’t effect whatever the computer boots. if the operating system finds the gpu and you don’t have any issues count your luck, I don’t know how that even would be possible.

James3 was speaking specifically about the Liquid Metal thermal solution that was initially installed on the FW16 7040 series CPUs and what he said in his comment was entirely accurate.

On how he wrote it. He didnt really mention that this does it. He said liquid metal becomes solid.

So no i wanted to inform him that there is 2 types of liquid metal.

Feels like there might just be a slight grammar misunderstanding / slight language barrier.

He says “The Liquid Metal” rather than just “Liquid metal”. Using “The” points to a single specific subject rather than the alternative, a general group. Since the conversation is regarding the liquid metal used on the processor pictured in the OP, that should be inferred as the single specific subject which “The” is pointing to, and it is not necessary to explicitly spell it out as “The Framework liquid metal used here”. In fact, I feel it would read as redundant and odd, robotic or AI-like even, if it was explicitly spelled out.

I have update my post to make the LM comment specific to the FW16.
