The idea of a framework TV was recently mentioned on the WAN show. I would love nothing more than to buy a TV that doesn’t track my data or show me ads in the OS (if it is a smart TV).
Is there anyone else out there who shares this desire? If so, what features would you want a TV to have? I’ll go first:
Local array dimming (not interested in a display that can burn in, but I want good picture quality)
Wouldn’t the solution just be to open source the software / firmware that runs on the TV, and let users install their own.
Then users can see how much spying or not is happening.
I think that is the only way for LG to prove it is not spying.
As another example. I have an air-con unit that has wifi. To set the wifi up, i have to install an app on my phone. The app fails to run if either internet or gps location is disabled on the phone. So, obviously spying, in the sense of over collecting private data. All i wanted was to use the phone as a remote control for the air con.
