FW 12 mouse pad and keyboard periodically stops working then start working again randomly

Okay. I’m at my wits end with this laptop. I’m trying to use it more (my main computer is an apple) but it’s really hard to do that when the keyboard and mouse constantly chose whether or not they work!

So what happens is sometimes the keyboard doesn’t work, as in I can play the hungarian rhapsody on this thing and nothing will be recorded. Obv I can still hook up another keyboard and it works but I shouldn’t have to carry one with me. At first I thought that it was because I’d forget to update my laptop but I’ve been good about it now and it still happens. Like yesterday, I tried restarting my laptop but the keyboard wasn’t working. I tried again today (after it died because I forgot to put it on the charger) and suddenly it was working. I set it down then came back and it wasn’t working again. I left to hang with my dad and when I came back, it was working again. Now the mousepad isn’t working! I honestly have no idea what to do. I tried googling it but nothing seems to work or doesn’t make sense (people who open their laptops while running then having issues). I’m sorry if this is a stupid question but I really don’t have anyone else to ask

Do you have any magnets near the laptop? They could trigger the lid sensor or make the laptop think it’s in tablet mode, which by default disables keyboard and touchpad.

Headphones, earbud cases and other laptops commonly contain magnets.

I can’t account for every time but I know like now that nothing magnetic around my laptop now and the mouse pad still isn’t working while the keyboard is

edit: now neither are working

I have had times where my keyboard and trackpad were completely disabled upon boot and would not work even after multiple reboots.

You might want to try taking off the input cover and cleaning the pogo pins that connect it to the mainboard. That usually resolves the issue temporarily for me.
