FW 12 Speakers issue

TLDR opening a support ticket, do not let your cats sit on your FW12.

Using Windows, updated to the latest release (on version 26200.9445)
Recently loaned my laptop to my sister for about a week. Her cats decided that my FW12 was a good seat. No clue how long that happened before she told me. I told her not to let them sit on the laptop after. Got it back last night and it worked fine, but now the audio is choppy. Gotta wobble my screen to get the speakers going.

Audio jack seems fine, and earbuds work without issues so far.

I’ve taken 4-5 videos of the issue. All of them are with varying results/the issue changing. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just cuts out entirely. I’m emailing support today and hoping this is solvable without new parts. If not, this’ll be 3 for 3 of strange things to break on my laptop (Bottom cover, screen, now this? possibly?)

I’d bet support has better ideas than the peanut gallery here, but since you ask…

The audio board seems to be just an interconnect (no active components). There are 12 landing pads for pogo pins from the main board. Some of those lines connect to the headphone jack and some of those go to the 4 pogo pins which connect to the speakers. Since the headphones jack seems fine and wobbling the case has some effect, I suspect the speaker pogo pins. I’d reseat the audio board (and look for cat hair!) and see if that fixes things. Just follow along the guide to replace the audio board - Audio Board Replacement on Framework Laptop 12 - Framework Guides

Good luck!

I agree, it is most likely just a loose cable somewhere inside.
You are luckier than me, I once had a paw mark appear on my old laptop, when I picked it up once, and the display had stopped working. It turned out that the old laptop (not FW) was not 36kg Labrador dog proof.
