FW 16 - GPU 7700S module not working

I recently bought a FW Laptop 16 (7040 series) with the Radeon RX 7700S GPU Module, and though I followed all the instructions for both setting up the laptop and also installing the GPU module, the GPU just does not seem to work.

It doesn’t show up on Windows under device manager or task manager, neither does it show up on Mint/Ubuntu under ls-pci as it should.

I’ve installed the drivers using the bundled driver releases from Framework, reinstalled Windows, installed AMD drivers on mint, and reseated the GPU module several times.

The fans from the module do seem to work, but I can’t get the device to show up on any OS.

I’ve submitted a support ticket already but have not gotten any reply

@Tiago_R did you get a response to your ticket? I have the same problem, ubuntu 24.04. I’ve had my 7040 for over a year now, the RX 7700S GPU has worked. I used the normal bay for a while after I had power failures (laptop would switch off when using the GPU with ollama). When I put the expansion bay with the RX7700S back in it did not show in nvtop like it did before, nor does it show in lspci.

The fans are working. It is also not showing in the BIOS (not sure if it would, I have searched around and tried a few other things besides lspci to get it to show).

Are there specific instructions for ‘reseating the GPU module’? I have seen this mentioned, but no instructions on what to look for. Since the fans are working, and the expansion bay is listed in the bios (FRAKMBCPA3411400HA), I assumed it should be seated well enough.

Ended up getting a replacement GPU (and also a motherboard, for a unrelated issue) which seemed to fix all my problems.

The GPU module fans were also working in my case, but seemingly the GPU was not being detected under any OS nor software that I tested.

I suspect that I may have caused some physical damage (unsure, as it never worked) during my initial install of my first GPU module, though this does not seem to be the case for the replacement, as I’ve swapped it out several times with the expansion bay shell without further issues
