I kept track of the pre-order closely by refreshing the page after 10am PT, and it was said to be Batch 0 that time. But I hesitated a bit and the batch number becomes 1 now.
I just ordered the colour Sage with i5 and no storage or memory included.
As the stylus pen is not available right now, I would order it later. Perhaps it can be added to the pre-order if it’s released before the laptop shipment? It just gives me another opportunity to buy more expansion cards with the pen.
I am still thinking of which colour I should get. Sage or Black. I would give it a few days for considerations. What do you think?
Similar for me concerning choosing color. Boring renderings that show all sides for all colorways would be really helpful to make a good decision. Especially since it might be upgraded several times in it’s lifetime and the chassis will remain the same
Currently went with Gray but thinking about switching to Bubblegum or Lavender. I think all the exciting colorways are estimated shipping a month after Black & Gray.
For choosing the color of the laptop, I would consider buying a Dbrand’s skin for the Framework Laptop 12 after they release the skins There are some reasons why I chose gray. Because the gray laptop’s sides are black. So, If I want, I can make the Laptop 12 all black using Dbrand’s black skin after they release skins for the Laptop 12. As a reference, Laptop 13’s Dbrand thread is here. If you want to see other 3rd-party brands’ skins and wraps, you can check this thread’s skins & wraps section.
I also think Laptop 12’s body color as paper for painting. So, if the paper color is gray, it is more flexible to decorate or draw something. I saw this, a decoration for Laptop 13 in the past. It was very cool.
I think gray is Framework’s flagship color, as well as Laptop 13 and 16.
For the Laptop 12’s weight of 1.3 kg, I was disappointed. But it is understandable. My plan is to replace my current Laptop 13 (1.3 kg) + iPad (715 g) with Laptop 12 (1.3 kg). So, buying Laptop 12 is still to reduce the total weight of my devices, The new device is 715 g lighter than the current devices!
I ordered one sage color. Maybe I did a mistake by not buying HDMI port. Price / performance doesn’t seem great but planning on keeping the laptop around long term.
This is my configurations I already have 13 inch model but purchased this because I wanted to read papers using tablet mode. I just want to keep my IT env as simple as possible
I found the following comment. It’s nice to see that we can add a stylus pen to our pre-order, editing the configuration.
Stylus is not included in the package (or in the price) we will introduce it in the marketplace later and you will have the option to add it to your preorder.
Not OP, but hoped for less weight. I’ll use my FW12 mostly as travel companion and sub 1kg would be ideal.
Having said that - not a big deal TBH. Just trying to optimize personal item weight for plane travel. And considering a similar situation like OP - replacing my current 1kg Laptop & tablet I’m actually saving weight overall too.
A backlit keyboard on the other hand That would be a fabulous upgrade I’ll definitely take - if available in the future.
Yes, it’s too heavy for me. I expected 1.1 or 1.2 kg for Laptop 12, as Laptop 13 is 1.3 kg. This is also mentioned here by someone. What caused the weight 1.3 kg of the Laptop 12?
iPad Pro 11 inch is 444 or 446 g. Of course iPad doesn’t include a keyboard.
I also care about repairability, upgradability, support, and Linux-friendliness. And the reasons why I pre-ordered Laptop 12 are much more than the device itself. So, I still believe Laptop 12 is my best choice for now.
The current plastic case mixed with metal makes sense because of its cost and robustness, considering Framework’s primary target customers, students. However, if the plastic case mixed with metal contributes to the weight of 1.3 kg, I hope that Framework or 3rd party will create a lighter aluminum (or/and titanium?) case option for Laptop 12 in the future, which may be lighter than the current plastic case.
