FW12 Batch 2 Guild

Commuter, fits like a dream. Went for a 5ish mile walk yesterday with the bag, the framework and a bunch of unused and unneeded cables and it wasn’t bad. It did feel a little small as a bigger person (6’ tall, broadish shoulders) but overall really happy to try out with the 12 can’t wait to use it more.

Me waiting

LOL! I sometimes feel like that when I’m waiting for a package. I hear something outside and I go to lift the shade, but I don’t want to look creepy, in case it is someone walking up to the porch. So I try to find an angle between the tiny gap where I can see if it’s the delivery I have been waiting for. But if they somehow did catch sight of me, it would be even worse, seeing my eye and a sliver of my face, peering out through the slit at the edge of the shade, lol.

Idk what fedex do if you can’t receive it, but if the guy doesn’t show in the next hour or so nobody is gonna be here, it was meant to arrive by three hours ago latest according to their own estimate :sob:

Mine has arrived! Looks pretty good but I’ll need to wait until my RAM and SSD arrive before I can have a proper go with it!

Waits impatiently

So FedEx claimed nobody was home (2 mins after they said it should arrive) at 6.02pm but I had my parents there as they were on the way back from to their place so they called in for me as a favour, the video doorbells show them arriving (15 mins before) but there’s no sign of anyone from FedEx, there’s also no door card or tag despite the tracking claiming one was left with info… the tracking also says 5:58pm it was at the depot which is where it left this morning at 7something AM so IMO they made it back to the depot as they weren’t gonna get it here before 6 and have now tried to claim nobody was home

It’s here!

I love the size it’s basically 1:1 with my 12.9” iPad Pro and just the perfect size for what I want to do. I kinda wish the bottom bezel was a little smaller but I don’t really notice it too much.

I can confirm this. It’s the same with mine. It is very hard to click the touchpad on the top left and top right corner. Except for that, the touchpad feels nice.

The loud fan annoys me too.
But touchscreen works well out of the box (fedora 42 kde) and my old Surface Pen works too.

What’s definitely a downer for me, is the sound. My head hurts after listening for a short period of time with sound (especially voice) coming out of the internal speakers. But the reason seems the placement of the speakers directed to left and right out of the chassis, instead for directly at me.

And the locking mechanism of the modules seems to work well on the sage usb c ones, but not that great on the usb a and hdmi silver ones.

I’m about to post a follow up - I’ve mostly sorted the trackpad but I think the top will always be hard to click by its design - the touchscreen is nice though yeah

Today my parents visited me and I presented them my sage one. I removed the keyboard during the running OS and they were stunned for its easiness.

I love the form factor. It’s a really great size to work with. If there weren’t the issues with the fan and sound, I would love it.

I haven’t tried it in my Commuter yet, but I wasn’t worried. Looks like a good fit

I got mine on the 29th of July

i5 16GB with international english keyboard

I have had some small issues:

  • keyboard, number 2 key feels terrible when pressing it, there’s some resistance and it makes a weird noise when released
  • touchpad randomly stopped working sometimes
  • microphone is terrible idk if mine is damaged or that’s how it is
  • the “rubber” feet are too hard to stick to any surface for the weight of the laptop
  • the keyboard generally feels worse than the thinkpad I had before

Does anyone else have these issues?

After initially thinking it was good the more I got used to it the worse the keyboard felt compared to my pixel book go tbh, I am likely going to return mine

That’s definitely not normal! Mine work fine.

In addition to your key problem, your keyboard might be faulty. Inform the framework team via ticket!

I’ll try that today, haven’t tested the microphone yet. Webcam is meh, but works. For it’s original purpose it suffices fine.

Do you mean on not flat surfaces? My fw12 sticks fine on my desk.
