FW13 Fedora GNOME Stuttering mouse cursor

Hello.

I’ve been experiencing mouse cursor stuttering/jumping for the past few weeks. It mainly happens when transitioning from a non-actionable UI element to a actionable element (like window edge, button, etc). The cursor will lag behind or jump visually. I was not able to find anything on this matter, and having tried a few different things, I’m at my wit’s end.

Fed up, I reinstalled Fedora 44 GNOME. I’ve installed each version of the kernel and it only appears as of 7.2.4. This issue is not present when reverting to 7.1.13. This is on a fresh install, so nothing else should really be impacting anything…right?

I have the issue with external mice (Razer, Keychron) and the trackpad.
I have the FW13 AMD 7040 series.
I also run CachyOS with Plasma up to date (forgetting the kernel version) and I don’t have that issue there.

Anyone noticed anything like that? Any suggestions on how to fix?

Thanks!

If you’ve found a kernel where the issue doesn’t happen, my advice is to pin to that kernel until a new kernel is released. Then when you get a moment you can try the new release, and unpin if it fixes it, keep the pin if it does not.

The minor downside is you’ll be missing some security patches for a period, but the risk of that is so infinitesimally small that I still recommend it.

If you wish, you can scan the kernel bug tracker for a bug that might be the same as yours. If you can find it, that might give you an idea of whether it is being fixed.
