I have absolutely no doubt that the performance gain over the X7 is not worth it, but I wanted to try an i9 (in this case X9) for once so that I can tell the X7’ers that it wasn’t worth it :D.

I found out today about this laptop myself. I been buying inbuilt AMD but reading about this Intel chip made me very hopeful that we can finally have performance and not a jet engine fan that spins off as soon as you stay using the laptop. I have the top tier 14 and a much as i love the idea and repairability i can’t use it day to day. I det it to eco mode and still it time to time gets very loud and warm.
This seems like a dream laptop with the Intel APU. Also want the X9 but sadly it’s out of stock so i wait
My last laptop was a Zephyrus G14 with a 3060 that I bought when I was starting university. Last year, the video memory failed and a repair wasn’t feasible. Every single one of my friends that bought a gaming laptop had something similar happen after 3-4 years. Instead of another gaming laptop, I wanted a laptop of theseus for the next decade or so. I do game development, 3D modelling, circuit design, audio production, and VR development work. Right now I’m doing my Masters and so I need something to handle teaching, presentations, and the occasional heavier application, like running a lightweight VR app. That said, my days of carrying around a huge laptop or needing to be plugged into a wall to get battery life over an hour are done.
13 Pro was my fastest device pre-order ever. Seems perfect for my use cases.

Operating system: I have tried to install Linux on my devices probably a half dozen times, each time it has failed spectacularly. I seem to be magically able to find system-breaking bugs within 10 minutes of installing any OS. My Steam Deck works great though, and I really like KDE. I’m done with Windows though. No new windows installations, this time I’m seeing it through. I’ve heard good things about Cachy, Bazzite, Nix, Omarchy, Endeavour, and Zorin from friends. I’m willing to do a lot of customization, willing to use a crazy window manager, willing to do a steep learning curve, willing to live in the terminal. My one requirement is that once everything is how I like it, it must stay that way unless I change something. I’ll probably try at least a few distros - any suggestions?
I’ve been thinking of disassembling all of the transparent parts and Rit dying them blue. Is this a bad idea?
Interestingly, checking today, the shipping estimation on my order has now changed a second time, and once again says July, instead of ‘August, originally July’. Hoping this is real and not some sort of error!
If you are not particularly sensitive to leakage current pretty much anything name brand and and a lot of generic options work just fine, the framework one isn’t that more expensive than most decent name brand ones though.
If you don’t want that tingling feeling when touching the metal chassis of your laptop then it’s gonna be hard to find a USB-C charger with proper grounding at a lower price. There was that Haribu charger with grounding but it’s only rated for 65W.
Add openSUSE Slowroll to your list of Linux distros to try. I’ve been using various versions of SuSE and openSUSE since 1996. I’ve installed openSUSE Slowroll on half a dozen Framework models, including Framework 13, Framework 16, Framework Desktop, and will be installing it on my Framework 13 Pro when I receive it. It has run well on all of them and comes with up to date drivers for the specific components of Framework computers as well as very up to date kernels and drivers. KDE is well supported on openSUSE Slowroll.
Some people on Reddit already have Batch 1.

Storage: 2GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD (Tried Gen 5 briefly on my current F13 AMD Ai300 gen even if not really supported and read in the threads about heat issues, so swapped it for a Gen 4 which is been working flawlessly on the F13AMD chip the past year)

Bezel: Translucent purple (was translucent no colour but swapped it when i saw it in a review. I do own already a black one, translucent orange one and translucent black one I bought once the orange one and gave it back because looked, to me, ‘toyish’ on the F13)
Keyboard: International English - Orange accent colour ( but will buy the blank graphite keycaps when released, I’m a bit on the fence with the orange gray, could look ‘plastic-toyish’? who knows.)

I’ve used in my original f13 Omarchy but in the last half a year went to Ubuntu for security/work reasons and it’s been less fun but more reliable than Omarchy for online meetings and compatibility.
In the past week I’ve moved the Ai300 chip into the coolmaster and, while I wait for the F13 Pro, set it up to work mainly remotely from my m1 air. (endless battery to work from wherever while the amd does the heavy lifting)
I hope we get some good news these next days. I’m checking more times a day my phone to see if there is an update than after any of my first dates in the past XD this can’t be healthy.
I thought the International English only came in Graphite and the Gray/Black was only in the U.S. English layout (which doesn’t look toyish at all, but more retro in my eyes)? Or does Framework have different combinations based on the region ?
That said, everytime I see the Orange/Black keycaps, I have a hint of regret, but as soon as I see the All black laptop, I am back to being content with my choice.
Either way, I am sure it’s going to be great and your collection is going to make it easy to play it by the mood of the day
