FW16 bluetooth not working on new kernel

Using Ubuntu 24.04 with kernel 6.8.0-139-generic

Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? (AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series)

Since updating to this kernel I have to boot into the previous kernel (138) to use bluetooth, otherwise I have tried restarting and reinstalling the bluetooth service which seems to be working fine and have tried disabling secure boot, all of which makes no difference.

Would like some help in continuing the debugging process, thanks!

Thinking it may be similar to this issue ( Bluetooth stopped working (Ubuntu, Framework 16) ) I have pasted some of the outputs I get here:

Can you just pin to the earlier kernel? Does using the later kernel give you something the earlier one does not?

I did not know that was possible, the later kernel doesn’t add anything for me so it could be a valid work around. One concern I have is I don’t want to miss future kernel updates that bring security patches.

You can just pin to the earlier kernel, and keep an eye out for a kernel that fixes the broken one. It’s a pretty common pattern. The security risk of getting patches late is generally thought to be minimal.

Do you use ZFS ?
If not, probably best to remove the zfs and spl modules.
The btusb is crashing. btusb_mtk_setup+0x453/0x610 [btusb]

Try posting the full “sudo dmesg” output somewhere and put a link to it here, so we can see the full context around the crash.

I do use ZFS so I can’t remove it.

dmesg output:

Well, looking at the stack trace, it is a bug in the bluetooth (btusb) and also the amdgpu.
You are using kernel 6.8.0, so my suggestion would be to upgraded to a newer Linux kernel.
The problem with that, is that the out-of-tree ZFS might stop working on a newer kernel.
So, if you continue to use zfs, you probably cannot fix this issue. (Note: I have no idea which kernel versions zfs is compatible with)
